Employer denied paid sick leave

My partner called in sick to work the day-of and was not paid for that time. His boss said it was because he "didn't give advanced notice." Is this legal?

Hourly employee.

I looked up the laws on https://cdle.colorado.gov/dlss/labor-laws-by-topic/wage-and-hour-laws-including-paid-sick-leave

It does not mention anything about "advanced notice" being required. And common sense dictates that you never know when you'll need your sick leave. Does anyone have more info on this, or has experienced an employer denying them paid sick leave? What did you need to do to get paid?

From what I read, you can submit a claim to the Dept. of Labor.

Employer denying paid sick leave

COLORADO. My partner called in sick to work the day-of and was not paid for that time. His boss said it was because he "didn't give advanced notice." Is this legal?

From what I read, you can submit a claim to the Dept. of Labor.

>Demands & Complaints for Wages: If an employer owes you wages, you can send your employer a written demand(opens in new window) for payment of wages by mail, email, text message, or other electronic means. A written demand may be sent to the employer at the same time a Labor Standards Complaint Form for unpaid wages is filed with the Division. The Labor Standards Complaint Form can be found on our Demands, Complaints, Responses, and Settlements webpage(opens in new window).

Corporate employers typecast into niches/verticals

I have 10+ years of experience mostly in visual/brand/marketing for big tech, agency, some pharma, B2B, SaaS. But I've done a variety of projects throughout including print (books, environmental graphics, flyers, etc.), presentations, motion design, and illustration.

I've noticed that job descriptions want very specific industry experience. For example, fin tech ONLY wants you if you worked in fin tech. Same for pharma, life sciences, education, etc. However the job descriptions for all these industries are literally identical (primarily for visual/brand design).

I get why they'd want to see B2C/e-commerce work vs B2B. But in most of what I'm applying to, it's all B2B.

How do you get around this? Or is this just one of those things that a non-designer writing up the JD/in charge of hiring feels is more critical than it is? Note that I DO have experience in many of these verticals, just not that much. And whatever I'm working on, I have no problem learning from subject matter experts and I am a quick study for complex products/concepts. I make diagrams of their platforms and stuff like that. This part is probably getting lost in the ATS filter.

Do you ask client/company to reimburse for GD software?

Usually for freelance clients, I don't ask and include that as a consideration of the cost. But what about for contract work through an agency? IME it's been hit or miss with that. They might cover a program that's specific for their needs but not Adobe CC, even if that's critical for the work. In this economy, is it a bad idea to start asking for that?

Can't select, copy, click into layers, etc. on artboards

I googled and searched this sub but couldn't find anything on this. I have a PSD file with a bunch of artboards. Today I can't duplicate an artboard, move it, etc. or click into the layers already on the artboards.

I tried to copy in the layers panel but no dice there either. Anyone know how to fix this? I tried restarting, no help.

60 days notice required unless not renewing?

In Lakewood. My apt lease requires a 60 days notice to vacate. I talked to a leasing agent who said that we don't need to do that if we're just staying until the end of the lease then moving out. Can anyone confirm this? Not able to find a lot of info on renting laws in CO.

Side question: for those who have had to give 60 days notice, was it difficult to find a new apt as most places are only offering units available now or at most a month out?

Scam call asking me to "come in" to update info per THE GOV

Got a weird call today from an extremely nervous person claiming to be a BOA rep from the city I live in. She said the GOVERNMENT requires me to "update information" and that I need to make an appointment to come in.

I asked if I can do it online, she said no. She was stammering the entire time and saying "um um um" every second. I realized this must be a scam and hung up. Be careful out there, make sure you tell the elderly or non-fluent speakers that this is a scam!

Side note: having a hard time finding out how tor report this to BOA. Their website isn't helpful to find a procedure for scam calls, just if your card is compromised.
