Store bought Kefir recs in Australia?

Looking for active kefir

I’ve been drinking Blue Bay kefir and really like it, but I’m wondering if there are any store-bought kefirs that are even more active/fizzy?

I’m looking for something that’s bubbly and clearly still fermenting, rather than just a yoghurt-like kefir. I know homemade with grains is probably the best option, but I’d prefer something I can just buy.

Any recommendations?

places for steak and oysters?

I’ll be in Queenstown, Glenorchy, Arrowtown and Christchurch soon. Any recs for good steak and oyster places?

Also open to other meats if there’s somewhere that does them really well. I don’t eat raw fish, but oysters are fine!

Happy to splurge if it’s worth it. Would love to hear your favourites!

5 days in South Island without a car, any advice?

Coming from Sydney for my first trip to New Zealand! I’ll be travelling solo in late August for 5 days and won’t be driving.

I’m thinking of flying into Queenstown, visiting Arrowtown, then heading to Lake Tekapo for stargazing and astro cafe. I’m also considering Onsen Hot Pools and staying at Haka House.

For food, I’d especially love to try something uniquely New Zealand or really exceptional local food, and I’m happy to splurge if it’s worth it.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this plan and what you’d change or add. Any food, activity or itinerary recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Also, any recommendations for good gifts to bring back for family?

Is Raineri’s worth the trip?

Is Raineri’s actually worth the trip from Surry Hills?
I’ve been seeing Raineri’s sandwiches everywhere and I’m really tempted to try them, especially because they’re apparently huge and only around $15.

For people who’ve actually been, is it worth going because the sandwiches are genuinely really good, or is it more about the size/value for money?

I live in Surry Hills, so Five Dock is a bit of a trip for me. I don’t mind travelling for a really good sandwich, but I’m not sure I’d go that far just for a massive $15 sandwich if the taste is only average 😂

Would love to hear some honest opinions! Also open to recommendations for other really good sandwiches in Sydney, especially around Surry Hills, CBD or the Inner West.

Favourite local restaurant cookbooks?

I have the Flour and Stone baking book for myself. I’ve always loved their cakes and pastries, so I was really excited to discover they’d published their own baking book.

Now I’m looking for something similar for my sister. She loves baking and cooking, especially bread, Italian and Mediterranean dishes, and hearty slow-cooked meals. She’s also a huge fan of salmon and pretty much any kind of sashimi, so I’m already considering the Saint Peter cookbook for her.

I’d love to discover more Sydney cafés, bakeries or restaurants that have published their own cookbooks. I’m much more interested in books from places people genuinely love eating at than celebrity chef cookbooks.

Gift ideas for my sporty auntie (50s) from Sydney?

Gift ideas for my sporty auntie (50s) from Sydney?
I’m heading back to China soon and want to get my auntie something nice.

She’s in her 50s, loves working out, takes good care of herself, and has a very confident, successful “girl boss” vibe. My budget is around AUD $300.

I’ve bought her lululemon before, so I’m looking for something different this time.

I thought about a pearl necklace, but I’m not sure it really suits her style. I also considered skincare, but she gets cosmetic treatments regularly, so I don’t really want to guess when it comes to skincare.

Looking for something that’s either uniquely Australian or just a really nice gift. It can be something I order online or buy in Sydney before I leave.

Would love to hear your ideas!

What to Buy at Carriageworks Saturday Market?

I’m planning to visit Carriageworks Saturday Market tmr.
So far, I’m planning to get:
·Tilba yoghurt
·Camden Valley Farm Jersey milk (they have plain, banana, strawberry and chocolate. I live alone, so I probably can’t try them all 😅. Which flavour would you recommend?)
·Chunky Dave’s peanut butter (Mayver’s chunky peanut butter is my #1, so I’m curious how this compares.)
· Vannella Cheese
Anything else that’s a must-buy at the market?

I’m mainly looking for things that are genuinely better than what I can buy at Coles/Woolies.

Where to buy a Mason Pearson brush in Australia?

Hi everyone!
I’ve been looking for a Mason Pearson pure boar bristle brush B1 or B2.
Does anyone know where I can buy one in Australia for a better price? I’m happy to buy new or from reputable second-hand platforms. Any recommendations for stores, sales, or trusted places to look would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Looking for the Persian / Middle Eastern Desserts

A year ago I tried a Traditional Persian Ice Cream from Farsi (unfortunately it’s closed) and the rosewater + saffron flavour combination completely obsessed me. Ever since then I’ve been trying to find more desserts with those floral/spice-heavy flavours.

Right now the places on my list are:
·Nikan
·Shaffa
·Nour
·Ricah Grill

But working through them one by one is going to take a while, so I wanted to ask for recommendations from people who know the scene better than I do.

Especially looking for:
·saffron rice pudding 🌟
·Persian ice cream / faloodeh
·rosewater, pistachio desserts
·malabi
·desserts with really strong saffron or floral flavours rather than just sweetness

Would also love hidden gems, family-run places, bakeries, cafes, or restaurants where the dessert is somehow even better than the mains.

Ideally somewhere within about 1.5 hours from the CBD by public transport 🙏
