I struggle to get them out of water and onto a boat/dock/ledge when alone.

This is going to sound stupid, but i was using a 7'6" rod, 25lb braid with a 40lb leader the other day, and I reeled one that was 36" into the dock, which was roughly 48" above the water.

I really struggled with getting it onto the dock by myself without a net. My minnow lure was almost entirely in its mouth, and I wasn't really comfortable grabbing it by the gill plate.

I kind of grabbed the line and scooped it up, but it was totally ungraceful and probably hilarious if anyone saw me struggle.

Should i get some lip grippers? Muckle onto its Gill Plate?

Am I maxing my rod out? Should I upgrade?

I am currently using a cheap 8' Okuma rod exclusive for stripers and mackerel on sabiki.

It is rated for up to 20lb line and a 1.5oz weight.

While i was reeling in a 33" striper, it swam under the boat and I couldn't believe the rod didn't explode.

Also, i will throw the Sabiki with 2oz or 3oz weight depending on the current on 25lb braid with a 30lb leader.

An 8' Shimano fx rod is only $26 and is up to 40lb line and 4oz lure weight.

Is it too much rod?

Can I re-freeze thawed frozen mackerel?

Silly question...

If i leave some mackerel in a cooler with some ice to chunk bait at work, the unused ones will kind of thaw out. Can I refreeze them and use them again?

Electronic communication devices while base coach.

I suspect by now most 12u all star teams have the catcher wear an ear piece.
At our district game yesterday the two base coaches had communication devices, and appeared to be communicating.
The game was stopped, but there was no punishment as there was no player connected.

I don’t coach Majors, but does a base coach who communicates with the catcher need to remove his device before coming on the field?

My son and I who both ump will likely run into this next season.

While setup work for chunked bait?

Can I run a setup like this for chunked mackerel and squid in Maine/NH in 30ft of water.

Line:

25lb Braid -> barrel swivel -> 36" of 40lb mono -> Tactical angler clip -> Size 6 circle hook with bait.

And then on the braid clip on a sliding sinker with 2 oz weight? (like this https://www.amazon.com/BLUEWING-Fishing-Stainless-Freshwater-Saltwater/dp/B0BCYYT7PN/)

Will squid/mackerel float off the bottom?

How easy should I set the drag to?

Last year with something similar that didn't slide, It would get hammered by crabs.

Lots of fish, no bites....help!

The past couple of days on the docks in Portsmouth I have seen a ton that were 30"+. Both day and night I have cast white top floating minnows, fake eels, fake mackerel looking things. They will swim right up, and then turn away.

I have tried reeling in slow and fast, it's like they know! Can I spray some scent on the lures?

I am using either straight mono, or a mono leader on braid.

I tried using my sibiki lure to get some live stuff, and no luck.

Basic striper line setup question (newbie here)

I work on the coast in NH, and at work we have some piers, a jetty and a few spots where the grass pretty much runs into the river. I want to leave a rod at work for fishing, but i want to be able to change from a minnow to weighted chunks to whatever without having retie the line.

I have 20lb braid. Can i just put a barrel swivel on the end, and everything off of that? If so, what size?

For instance, can I run a sp minnow lure with off the swivel, or should i have a leader tied to the minnow?

I hope that makes sense, and thanks for any help.

Is this DPCM33 a Pedroia fit or just old Wilson number?

My 13u son ordered this glove from Better Baseball because it was on sale: https://betterbaseball.com/wilson-a2000-cm33ss-33-catchers-mitt-wbw10227433-fall-2024?product=140918

No where does it mention being a Pedroia Fit, but it does read DP33 on the glove.

If you punch in the serial number, it comes here where it mentions the the PF33 pattern:

https://www.justballgloves.com/product/wilson-a2000-superskin-33--baseball-catchers-mitt--wbw10227433/37840/

It also appears that if you google something like 2021 CM33, they were all labeled"DPCM".

The tag that came on the glove does not mention Pedroia Fit, and is suggested for 13+.

The stalls feel tight on my fingers, but I have never owned an a2000 catchers mitt.

I have read that most Pedroia Fit gloves have less padding, and i want this to last through high school.

Any help would be great.

Budget reel and size for striped bass, or just buy another combo?

I have two cheap 8’ Okuma combos that I let my kids use to fish for stripers at the beach and jetty. One obviously got put away with saltwater and sand in at the end of last year and now doesn’t work.

It was a TU-60 reel (6000).

I want to run 20lb braid but can I go smaller than a 6000?

would I be better off just buying another combo?

this reel will likely see the same abuse of 11-13 year olds, so I don’t want to spend a lot of money.
