Reimagining Gen 1 Pokemon for my grown-up, nostalgic self: platformer mechanics, a heavier world, and a rival who might mean more

🎉 Happy Pokémon 30th Anniversary! 🎉

Calling all nostalgic Pokemon fans: I'm looking for playtesters for a game reimagining Gen 1 as a 2D side-scrolling platformer. I wanted to return to that childhood world with grown up eyes, so the game is filled with more heaviness and corruption but also more humanity and love.

Your rival is a full character now, not just a periodic roadblock. Your best friend, mortal enemy, someone you can't stop thinking about 😉... how your relationship grows depends entirely on the choices you make.

I have a small playable build ready from the intro through Mt. Moon, and I'm looking for a small group of people to play and give some honest feedback on how it feels :) Trying to find community in this wild intersection of things that I love.

🙏🏼 If you're interested in playtesting or just want to follow along for the ride, please drop a comment below! 🙏🏼

Reimagining Gen 1 Pokemon for my grown-up, nostalgic self: platformer mechanics, a heavier world, and a rival who might mean more

🎉 Happy Pokemon 30 year anniversary! 🎉

I've been craving Kanto nostalgia, so I reimagined it for the present day. Same regions, rebuilt from the ground up as a 2D platformer with more engaging mechanics and faithful Gen 1 battles. The story follows the general arc, but it's grown up alongside the people who grew up with it. A world steeped in corruption and cruelty, but also hope and love (undenounced), just like ours.

Your rival is a real character this time, not just an obstacle. Closest friend, mortal enemy, the person you can't stop thinking about on the next route 😉... what he becomes depends on small choices you make along the way.

I have a playable build from the intro through the entrance to Mt. Moon and I'm looking for a small group of people to play through it and tell me honestly how it feels. Rough in a few places, but feedback early and often is always welcome :) Hoping to find community in this wild intersection of things that I love.

🙏🏼 Anyone interested in playtesting, or even just want to be kept along for the ride, please drop a comment! 🙏🏼
