Contract pro v. con - limited commenting for 24 hours

This is a structured post, with limited interaction for 24 hours. It is intended to give a PRO v. CON back and forth to two SPEEA members.

Taking the position of PRO will be u/Acrobatic-Teach-7768. Taking the position of CON will be u/lift206.

Automoderator will remove any comments not from either of these two. This is ONLY being done to this post, so if you have comments or want to post, go ahead - the subreddit is otherwise operating as it has been recently.

I've modified the ground rules slightly, but only so they're a little clearer (and we're no longer seeking participants - so they could be streamlined).

Format:

Scope has been narrowed to wages and COLA only (salary pools, GWI, CPI-W minimum, COLA thresholds, cost of rejection vs. potential gains). Non-wage provisions are conceded as fair by both sides.

Ground rules:

Contract citations only. Redline, summary, or fact sheet.

Good faith discussion - no ad hominim or I'll just lock it down.

No moving goalposts.

No dirty edits after the other side responds.

Be specific.

Try to concede points if facts show something is true.

Contract Offer Infographic: Wage Increases Simplified...ish

My initial impression of the offer was relatively positive. I didn't consider it a slam dunk, but close enough on both pay - after years of losing ground to inflation - and other details to merit serious consideration whether to vote Yes or push for a few more improvements.

But as I dug into the redline, and others pointed out their concerns, I realized some of the info being presented on the offer was misleading, especially about salary adjustments. As the length of my notes on the details grew, I decided an infographic could help emphasize a couple important observations in a simpler manner.

Unfortunately, the combination of salary adjustments becoming significantly more complex, and some of information being shared conflicting with the actual redline or being inconsistent with what I would consider the plain meaning of "annual wage increase" made it difficult for me to keep it as simple as intended.

And I haven't even touched on the elimination of the guaranteed 2% minimum in favor of a varying minimum based on inflation that starts at 0%, or tried to explain the two layers of performance based factors being proposed, much less have I figured out how they will be handled in reality.

In short, what I initially thought was a proposal for 31.9% average compounded wage increases over 4 years is actually 29.4%...or perhaps it's 26.4%.

At the moment, I'm more frustrated by how complicated they made it, and how inconsistent and unclear the information being presented is than by the actual numbers.

Negotiating Team Endorsement Letter

Take this with a grain of salt - as has been reported widely, lifting an offer from the table often is conditional on recommending it. (I.e. blink twice if you’re saying this against your will…).

Since it’s posted on the website, here’s the NT’s endorsement letter and their summary of the contract.

Contract Summary

If anyone can verify they are on the BUC or negotiating team and are authorized to share the contract summary sheets and can verify their authenticity, I’ll allow them to be posted and discussed here.

There was a LOT of misinformation going around from a certain few posters and I want people to review and do math on accurate and validated information.

Send me a DM with authentication information and your statement the documents are legitimate (or send the legit documents to me directly) and we can get them posted.

I have no interest in preventing open discussion on authenticated information.
