Beating the game + DLC on Standard is one of my proudest gaming achievements

I was excited for Fireteam Elite when it first came out, and even read the tie-in novel. But the game didn’t click for me and I only played it a couple of times.

When the launch date for FE2 was revealed I decided to hop back in. I’m glad I did!

Fireteam Elite is a great game…provided you can accept the lack of mission checkpoints. The graphics are good for a AA title, it captures the Colonial Marine experience well, and I loved the tie-ins to Aliens and Prometheus lore.

The lack of mission checkpoints, even in Private/solo mode, is a big caveat. I played the entire game in Private mode on Standard mode, and only died once mid-mission. All the times I died were at the end of missions, where I was surprised by a new gameplay ask, a new enemy type, or a new intensity of enemies. I suppose that re-playing the missions did make me a better player, but it was frustrating to replay 20 minutes of a mission that I could get through just to get to the last 10 minutes where I had to learn/refine my approach.

The guides in the subreddit were a huge help, and I never failed a mission more than three times. It was thrill to get through a mission that was difficult and intense.

I’m ready for FE2 later this month!

Ready to enter the 2600 grid!

I finally took u/Pandarcadeg up on their offer and bought a sealed copy of Tron Deadly Discs and a new Tron M Network joystick for Atari 2600.

I’m getting ready for the launch of the Polymega Pro module later this year (I hope!) and as a big Tron fan I excited to play.

Game and joystick are both in great condition for items nearly 45 years old.

Better later than never, though in my defense I was only 5 when this game came out!
