Church behind house (thank you Google street view!)

I pass this once in a while for work and always wanted to stop and take a photo. Has the chance the other day and you can see (3rd pic) the sun directly behind it…awful lighting for my taste. I hated to use street view but I was determined to paint this.

1/2 Day DDay Beach Tour from Bayeux Recommendation

We will be in Bayeux for a few days next month and would like a half day tour to the DDay Beaches. I know a half day only gives us so much! Any tour company recommendations? We are arriving by train and will not have a car. Thanks!

Took a shot at this car I saw in a museum.

Good chance to practice proportion and perspective and have a go at shadows on a subject I don’t usually tackle.

Harmony, PA, and a question about your palette.

Do you always start with a clean palette? I always did until I saw Liron Yankonsky on IG talk about not cleaning it. I haven’t been for a while and I do enjoy the “accidental” shades I get when mixing.

Taking a shot at gestural people.

Been wanting to add people for movement. I was tempted to add more value/detail but I really thought doing so would screw this up. Room for improvement but I’m okay with it.

The Deli at the Univ. of Dayton

Was back at my Alma Mater this weekend. This place has been there forever!

Ironmaster House, Mercer PA

Originally built in 1840, this is now an Air B&B, and sits right next to one of the best western Pennsylvania brewery.

Pipeline Alley, Oil City, PA

Swipe for the reference…wish I had the guts to go for the gorgeous spiral fire escape.

Old Allegheny County Jail, Pittsburgh

Lighting wasn’t great because of the smoke from the wildfires but I was in town for work and always wanted to get a photo with the bridge from the courthouse.

I asked, you delivered.

I asked yesterday about handling windows on this photo and received some good suggestions! Added just a few windows for reference and I think I got what I wanted. Thanks for the help!

How would you suggest/represent these windows loosely?

I took this photo in Pittsburgh yesterday and I like the sun from the left and the contrast. I usually work loosely, and not sure how to get these windows in without inking/painting all of them. Because if that perspective is off, the entire piece will feel off. Normally with something like brick or stonework I’d just add a few. All suggestions helpful!

Moravian Way, Pittsburgh

I cropped my original photo to get this diagonal reference from top right to bottom left.

Barcelona Lighthouse, Westfield NY

Drive by this lighthouse a few times a year for work and finally jumped out to grab this photo.

Old truck, older house.

Took some license by leaving out the overgrown trees and making it more orange brick than red to offset the truck more.

Lowellville, OH Train Station

I pass this old train station every week and finally had a chance to get a photo. Sun wasn’t ideal but nothing I can do about that.

Not perfect…but trying

Really trying to incorporate people. Parts I like, parts I do not.

Giving monochromatic a shot.

Read a quote from a watercolor artist who said “I’m greedy for contrast.” So I went extra dark with the shadow. While I’m not completely happy with this, it was a good exercise and glad I tried it.
