anyone else obsessed with how their partner smells like?

^title

My gf is going on a business trip for 2 weeks and I literally bought a whole bottle of her signature perfume so I can spray it on my stuffed animals and make them smell like her.

Holding onto something that reminds you of the person you love while in their absence is peak lesbian yearning to me…

My legal name sounds like an animal onomatopoeia - Am I too sensitive?

(edited: grammar)

Hi name nerds!

I was born and raised in China but have been living in an English speaking country since I was a teenager. I’m in my 20s now. My legal Chinese name happens to sound exactly like an animal onomatopoeia when transliterated to English, despite meaning absolutely nothing related to that animal.

I do have an English name which I like and go by in daily life. However, there are certain scenarios where the legal name has to be used, such as in medical interactions where they have to process my legal details.

As I grow older and begin my career in an industry where I am required to be taken seriously (think lawyer, teacher, engineer etc), I become more and more self conscious about my legal name and get more and more irritated when people attempt to joke about it.

Earlier today, I went and got a blood test. The technician noticed my legal name and kept exclaiming how “cute” it is and making jokes about it such as “You don’t identify as [said animal], right?”“You can scratch me if I do a bad job!” (This probably gives it away lol).

This left a bad taste in my mouth because again, my name has NOTHING to do with that animal. And even though it is an animal that most people find cute, I find those comments a little bit diminishing as a grown woman.

If anything, this interaction just makes me feel like I need to use my English name in more situations to avoid being laughed at by immature people.

Does anyone have advice on how to deal with this?

(Name change is not an option at least for now, as it will require a lot of complicated paperwork involving both China and the country I live in.)

Stripes on stripes on stripes

Had a browse at General Pants today and holy moly, those horizontal stripes are on every aisle!
They work decently on some people but this degree of ubiquity seems absolutely ridiculous…

Hi all,

I’m a pre-service teacher from a software engineering background and computing technology is my first teaching area (may be called digital technology in other states). There seems to be quite few of us on this sub and in the wild (there are less than 10 people with my teaching area in my Master of Teaching cohort), so I haven't been able to find much insight into what it is actually like to be a computing teacher.

So I thought I'd ask those of you with experience:

  1. What are some unique quirks/rewarding aspects that comes with teaching computing?
  2. In a similar vein, what are some challenges that are specific to being a computing teacher?
  3. What is the workload typically like for computing teachers, and what factors tend to contribute to higher or lower workloads?

Thanks!
