For those that haven’t read it yet, this fic was written out of spite for the resurgence of zutara hate once natla s2 and the legend of aang movie came out.

Its a multiverse of sorts. Canon compliant vs Canon divergence.

The characters’ ages and looks are the same in the Legend of Aang movie. Canon Katara gets sucked into a vortex created by a jinn/trickster that Team Avatar was pursuing and Fire Lady Katara is spat out in canon world from a different universe.

Here’s a snippet;

She knows the layout of the council hall well enough to avoid it entirely. The last thing she wants this morning is another run-in with that crooked minister and his oily smiles.
A deep, insistent pull stirs inside her chest — the same Fire Lady instincts that once reshaped this very palace with Zuko beside her in her own world. She knows she should not interfere. 

This is not her world. 

These are not her people to guide, not her nation to mend. Even the smallest shift could unfold an event she doesn’t fully understand.
Yet the thought lingers.

Maybe a small change… 

Just a little. 

Nothing grand enough to tear this world apart.

She cannot simply sit by, waiting passively for portals to open or spirits to act. Idleness chafes at her like rough sand against bare skin. In her own world, she would already be drafting proposals, visiting the infirmaries, tending the gardens, or quietly—or loudly—removing threats like Minister Kwan before they could even strike. 

Here, she has no authority.

But she still has her hands. 

She still has her mind.

Here’s a preview.

The main corridors are familiar in layout, yet wrong in feeling. The banners hanging from the high beams are still dominated by stark black and deep crimson, with only the faintest accents of gold. In her world, after their wedding, she worked with Zuko for months on new designs. They slowly introduce warmer golds and soft blues here and there, even in the flowerbeds that are mostly dominated by red and orange fire lilies, she added more fountains and blue irises, subtle threads of water and fire woven together, symbols of unity and healing. Here, those colors are almost entirely absent. The palace still feels colder. More militaristic. More like the old Fire Nation that once marched to war.

Even the architecture, though structurally identical, carries a heavier atmosphere. Fewer tapestries depict moments of peace or the new era of harmony. 

Instead, restored suits of armor and captured war relics line certain alcoves like trophies. There are fewer family portraits as well. In her timeline, Zuko begins commissioning paintings that include not just past Fire Lords, but also images of the Gaang, of Iroh, and eventually of their own growing family. 

Here, the walls feel lonelier.

Katara’s chest aches with quiet recognition. This is a palace still licking its wounds, still proving itself to the world instead of confidently leading their own nation.
