Advice on bottle returns not covered by New York Returnable Container Law
Just tried to do bottle returns at a Walgreens (Arizona 34 floz plastic) and was told they can no longer accept those since NY isn't on the bottle deposit list (CA, HI-ME, and OR are on there) even though I bought them there and they've accepted them before.
I've had trouble returning these for bottle deposits before (various machines reject them) so... IDK what to do. I'll just dump them in the bin if Ihave to, but it would have been nice to get a dollar or so back.
Any advice?
EDIT: Okay, no real way to make this work, I'll just be recycling them normally.
The reason for my confusion is that I'd previously been able to return these at Walgreens, and on a different occasion prior, while trying to do so at a Costco, had been told that the specific reason they couldn't take them is because it was not a product they sell, and they could take bottles/cans for any product they personally sold. I assumed that applied to other chains, and that the general rule was "a store can only take it as a return if they sell the product." I also thought that deposits were included in the cost of a product, and never bothered to check the receipt for it as a line item because it's not been an issue before. These assumptions came from experiences with stores directly, and it just turns out that those assumptions were based on abnormal experiences. Please don't be rude to me.
