I emblazoned my new personal arms (+bonus demi-fae-cat crest)
A little over a week ago I asked you guys for advice on designing my new arms, and everyone gave me great feedback! People seemed to like this escutcheon the most, and I decided to go with the demi-faerie crest.
Also drew a bonus demi-fae-cat (half a cat with faerie wings) since people wanted to see what that'd look like.
Blazon
Escutcheon: Or, a quatrefoil pierced and conjoined at the petals with a square voided Sable.
Crest: A demi-faerie passant winged and crined Or vested of a dress Sable holding a paintbrush Tenné bristled and garnished Argent tipped of the first.
Motto: Omnia amittas quae non servantur. This Latin phrase means “You may lose everything that is unsaved”.
Symbolism
Quatrefoil: This recreates my logo as a heraldic charge. This was originally the emblem of Malaszec, a fantasy-cyberpunk country I made for a collaborative worldbuilding project many years ago. The work I did there and the people I collaborated with forever changed my art for the better, so I’ve kept using the logo even though the country is quite dystopian in-universe. Plus, I think the logo looks cool.
Crest: I keep coming back to faeries as a subject for my art, maybe because I have an affinity for small versions of normally big things. One of the main inhabitants of Malaszec were faeries as well, and it was really interesting thinking about how society would adapt if faeries had to live among humans.
Funny story, when I was a kid, there were a couple of girls at school who were really into some book series about faeries. They asked me if I’d read it as well, and wanting to be liked, I lied and said yes. I wonder if they’re still into faeries.
Motto: There are actually multiple ways to translate the motto due to the subjunctive amittas, which results either in “You may lose everything that is unsaved” (the intended meaning) or “May you lose everything that is unsaved”. I think the last one is pretty funny, though I’m not sure when you’d tell someone that you hope they lose their unsaved work.
Designing personal arms: opinions and blazon help needed
Spent a while doing some sketches and stuff, trying to decide on some designs and figuring out how to blazon.
Not sure how to blazon the quatrefoil plus billet combo, but that charge is supposed to recreate this logo (more or less) that I made a long time ago and use as a profile picture everywhere.
The logo was actually a charge for a flag for my fictional country from a collaborative worldbuilding project that's not active anymore. That community and the project was a huge influence on who I am as an artist, hence why I keep using it (even though the country is quite dystopian).
Then I thought as a human I should have something more distinct from my country's flag, so I came up with the middle shield design. The concept is the cat is painting the quatrefoil, in the same way that I invented the country.
I like the metaphor, but I feel the chief is a little empty since the quatrefoil doesn't fill much space.
Then I thought about crests. I'd only use the cat if it's not in the shield, but it has a mouse in its sinister paw. I'm primarily digital artist, so it's a stand-in for a computer mouse.
With the faeries, I just like them. The mascot on my website is a faerie, and I keep coming back to them as an art subject.
I drew a coat of arms for a hacker with a drone surveillant for a crest
Blazon
Party per fess Bleu Celeste and Sable, a rose proper leaved and slipped by a wreath of thorns Vert, pendent therefrom three keys Argent.
Crest
On a kettle hat Sable, a drone affronty surveillant Or.
“Surveillant” is not an official heraldic term anywhere, but I think using it to mean the drone has a camera is pretty funny.
Motto
NOWHERE IS OFF LIMITS.
Symbolism
Rose proper
Canting charge referring to her nickname, “Rosy,” due to her rose-tinted glasses.
Three keys Argent
Represents access to many locations, in reference to her skills in computer hacking and covert entry.
Crest
The kettle hat Sable represents a black hat, a term for malicious hackers. The drone Or represents her drone flying skill, which she uses to reconnoiter a location before she breaks in.
---
I've previously made coats of arms for my RPG characters (like this one for a cartomancer) so I thought I'd make one for another: Camille "Rosy" Grey, a black hat hacker (i.e. a malicious hacker) who specializes in covert entry and uses drones to case her target location.
I actually designed this with the Blue Celeste instead of Or, but then I got halfway through it and realized it didn't match her character design at all, which outside of her rose-tinted glasses, is made entirely of cool colors.
Happy birthday Green(f)!
Apparently June 1st is Green(f)‘s birthday and because I never keep up with these things, I only found out today, on June 2nd. I usually find out about these character birthdays like a week after they (fictionally) happen, so I usually never do them. It’s not too late, right? I mean, people leave their Jack-o-Lanterns out to rot for like a month after Halloween.
