My Simple Setup - Violectric DHA V380²
Sharing this here as I couldn't find any other threads on the sub with this dac/amp & thought you guys might be interested in seeing something different.
Violectric DHA V380²
Sennheiser HD650 & Openheart Balanced 4.4mm
PC with Neutron Music Player as the source using Oratory's PEQ settings & +6db pre-gain set on the amp really grabs the 650's by the neck & makes them sing. Sounds fantastic for most genres of music especially the vocal centric / electronic stuff I listen to.
Naturally it doesn't do so well on super busy tracks with a lot going on all at once as the 650's presentation starts to get a bit muddled / congested.
Happy to try & answer any questions if I can but there's a great write-up of the amp/dac on head-fi that explains the technicalities way better than I could if you want to read more.
Standalone Hardware PEQ
So I'm looking for a hardware PEQ solution that facilitates digital audio input, can apply a PEQ to the signal & output the processed signal digitally which will then be fed into to my existing headphone dac/amp unit that I'm happy with.
I've done a bit of reading & it seems as though a Mini DSP Flex Digital would be a viable solution however I'm wondering if the same functionality can be performed with any of the RME ADI-2 boxes.
So digital into the ADI-2 applying the PEQ then bypassing the units dac/amp section & outputting the processed signal digitally to my external headphone dac/amp?
Is there any other boxes I can check out that provide this functionality, preferably digital usb out.
Cheers
Possible to EQ either Sennheiser 800s or 660s2 to sound like a better 650 ?
So back in 2012 I had a pair of Sennheiser HD650's paired with a Fiio E09 desktop amp & E17 portable amp / dac combo. This was my first experience into hifi headphones, I instantly fell in love with music again & the sound quality / tone this equipment delivered.
Fast forward to a few years ago I sold my setup as it wasn't getting used as much as it should do, anyway I'm back in the market for another pair of cans & desktop amp/dac. I'd like to stick with sennheiser & fiio again but it seems in all this time there's doesn't appear to be a direct successor to the 650's. From what I've been reading both the 800s & 660s2 are techincally upgrades over the 650 but both sound very different with regards to tone.
I'm planning to get the Fiio K17 desktop dac/amp although I'm open to other suggestions and unsure which of these headphones to buy. Not a bass head but y musical tastes are mainly electronic & female vocalists. People seem to be saying the 800s are a bad choice for electronic genres & the 660s2 aren't great for vocals so I'm a bit stuck on what to do.
I could just buy another pair of 650's as I love how they sound but I'd rather experience something different / better so my question as per the post title can I make with EQ either the 800s or 660s2 sound similar to the 650 but better?
Like can I bring the bass up on the 800s or the vocals forward on the 660s2 & have them sound good? I hear the 800s does well matched with warm sounding tube amps but I'm not keen on exploring that particular rabbit hole.
Edit for automod: Combined budget upto ~£1500 for headphones & DAC/AMP & happy to purchase used equipment.
