I remember visiting Peanut Butter & Co in NYC as a kid. As a child with a choosy mom that chose JIF, I was enamored with a restaurant that only served peanut butter sandwiches. Apparently I was the only one because they closed and now just do jars. Nonetheless, the contest they posted here reminded me of that and I felt like I needed to give their new farmer and friends (am I the friend? Can I be?) jars a try (already a fan of their chocolate, if that is your speed)
IN THE JAR: This looks nice in the jar, I can tell it is a well roasted and I was surprised to see the little flecks of darker bits that usually means this will have a slight texture. It stirred up really nicely and did not have too much oil.
ON THE SPOON: Definite cross between the crunchy and smooth with some coarse bits throughout, which I appreciate. There is a nice roast here, not super dark, but flavorful. I’ve found that when people that use good peanuts for their PB you don’t need much else.
ON THE SANDWICH: Love the texture, really nice peanutty flavor from the roast and the small pieces. Appreciate the texture here too. I think the one thing this needs is just a tiny tiny bit of salt, which I added post-construction with some chips.
Overall, 4/5 spoons. Really high quality peanuts, well roasted, and easy to stir are all makers of a good peanut butter by me.
