Ideas for a peanut butter substitute

My child (8 years old) is in the process of transferring to a special needs school, and one of the better ones has an extremely strict "no nut-based foods" policy. As you can probably relate to, my child has only a few foods that they tolerate, one of them being peanut butter. A big issue is that they eat their sandwich first, and if there's no sandwich, they won't eat the rest of their lunch. Also, peanut butter is how we hide their medications. We need them to have a sandwich in their lunch.

We had this same issue in the past when our child was going to ABA, and I don't want to waste your time with our failed attempts and problems. Just know that I am looking for a non-nut sandwich spread that tastes exactly like peanut butter. No Biscoff sandwich spread, no marmite - I need a peanut butter substitute that can fool a child.

Any suggestions for non-peanut peanut butter are welcome. Thank you.

My Ultimate Peanut Butter Granola

I tried this and it came out quite good. It has a nice roasted peanut flavor, and using honey as the sweetener helps the flavor as well. This comes out in large clusters if you like your granola that way.

INGREDIENTS

Ingredient Amount
Peanut Butter 128 g (1/2 cup)
Honey 128 g (1/3 cup)
Salt 2 g (1/2 tsp)
Peanuts 128 g (1/2 cup)
Oats 128 g (1 1/2 cups)
Peanut Powder 32 g (1/3 cup)
Raisins (optional) 80 g (1/2 cup)

You can use an extra 1/2 cup (40 g) oats instead of the peanut powder, but you will miss out on some of the flavor and it may not form clusters as well.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix the peanut butter, honey, and salt. Optionally, heat the mixture in the microwave for about 30 seconds to make it thinner and easier to mix with the remaining ingredients.
  2. Stir in the peanuts, oats, and peanut powder until everything is evenly coated.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly on a baking sheet. A 1/4 sheet pan is the right size for this.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–24 minutes, stirring about halfway through.
  5. Let cool for 40 minutes, then break into clusters and stir in the raisins.

PB Latte

I got this at the Pulley Coffee Bar in New York at the Chelsea Market. It was pretty good, decent amount of pb flavor , which I was surprised at, towards the end of the drink it did get sort of gritty

PB&J and PB&Chocolate Donuts

Stan’s (Rosemont, IL) has their Peanut Butter & Jelly and Peanut Butter & Chocolate pocket donuts back on the menu and you best believe I picked some up this morning. 🤤 😩 so good

I need to know if anyone else feels the same

32F here. I am and always have been a peanut butter and jelly fanatic. I average one a day. I can't seem to find anything that is as delicious or satisfying as a good hearty pb&j. I often put a thin slice of cheese on top. It's just something I've always done. I get made fun of a lot by peers, coworkers etc. But I just don't care and nothing can stop me. I am a die hard fan.

How many of you wish that peanut butter crunch?

I mean I love peanut butter crunch but my teeth situation is getting worse I wish they made them softer is there a softer version of them elsewhere or another cereal that could compare to it?

Best peanut butter!

I was down the shore with my girlfriend and saw a peanut butter shop in Cape May New Jersey. They have all sorts of different flavors and baked goods! The flavor is perfect

Peanut butter and jam

I'm a recent convert to PB&J (not really a thing where I grew up) and every one I make I seem to load with more PB and more J.  All from Lidl, own brand peanut butter, own brand raspberry conserve, crusty white roll from bakery section.  Lovely, but blooming hard to eat, took ages to comb the excess out of my moustache....

Least smoky peanut butter?

Help! I’ve always been a peanut butter lover, but ever since I hit perimenopause I can’t stand the smoky taste. Are there any brands (I’m in the US) that don’t taste very “roasty” or smoky? I suppose I could always make my own with unroasted peanuts that I lightly roast myself, but the perimenopause has also stolen my energy. Thanks!

Is there anything bad about this Peanut Butter I should know about?

I’ve had Teddie before and liked it, I went to buy more today and it was only $1. It’s not expired, it might be on clearance or discontinued from that store, idk. I’ve seen the glass jar Teddie recommended here, anything I should know about the plastic ones before I stock up? Thanks in advance.
