Could the purpose of psilocybin be to make the mushroom live longer?

Some recent research has found that Psilocybin treatment extends cellular lifespan and improves survival of aged mice.

There are plenty of hypotheses about why mushrooms produce psilocybin—deterring predators, altering insect behavior, influencing microbes—but the evolutionary purpose is still far from settled.

It made me wonder: what if psilocybin also benefits the fungus itself? If it promotes cellular longevity in mammals, could it have originally evolved to improve the lifespan, resilience, or health of the fungus that produces it?

I realize mammals and fungi are very different, so this may be a stretch. I'm just curious whether anyone knows of research exploring this idea, or whether there's a biological reason it can already be ruled out.

Has anyone successfully gotten their conservative parents to try shrooms?

I have found shrooms beneficial for my own depression and compulsive tendencies. I think the root of the unhealthy relational dynamic my brother and I have with my parents comes from my dad's rigid beliefs, unresolved trauma, thought loops, and lack of self awareness. It seems sensible that shrooms would help to soften those characteristics.

I feel like I'm in a chicken and egg situation here. He won't go to therapy because he's so rigid and dogmatic, and he can't loosen his grip without the help of a therapist. Mushrooms seem like a potential catalyst to begin his healing process, but he's so calloused and closed minded that I can't realistically see any way to get him to try them willingly.

Anyone else able to relate? Would love any advice. I know I'm a little hyper-fixated on shrooms lately because they've helped me so much, but I am open to advice that doesn't fit this "my dad goes on a trip and everything changes" narrative that I have playing in my head right now.

Thanks in advance 😊

Day 9: I feel a lump 🥹

Finally couldn't resist the urge to feel my bags to see if there is anything growing in there. Overjoyed to report that I felt a solid mass at the top of all eight bags. Now I just need to wait another 2-3 weeks before I check again 🥲

Opinion on these 27q tall tubs I found at Target today?

They're a bit taller than what I typically see. Is that going to pose any problems? If not, I thought it would be nice because it will give the shrooms plenty of room to grow.

What do we think about atomizers for misting?

I have this little electric atomizer that I use to reduce static in my coffee grounds. Curious if anyone else has experience with something similar when misting their tubs. It produces an extremely fine mist that barely clings to anything.

Let me know your thoughts! I'm only 5 days into colonization and bored out of my mind 🥲

Did I mess up by letting air into my ready rice bags?

Hello! First timer here. While inoculating my ready rice bags in my SAB, I let the top of the bags open up as I was trying to expand the FAE slit. After second guessing everything and digging around the subreddit and seeing the "chip-clip" technique I realized that I may have ruined all of my bags.

Just curious if anyone has had a similar experience and wether all of their bags got contam or if it turned out fine.

Other details: Target brand "Good & Gather" plain brown rice. sprayed everything down with 70% ISO. GT LC; flame sterilized between bags. Left bags in the SAB and transferred to my closet. No heater, but apartment stays consistently around 70-75°f. Inoculated two days ago and haven't touched since.
