Just a somewhat unhinged rant..

It is bad enough that we give out water for free to guests with no limit. It *really* chaps my ass when they get ridiculous with it and ask for 4,5,6 waters at a time. I have to *really* suppress my “fck you” face when someone else sees/overhears that and asks for the same thing (and you just KNOW that water hadn’t even been on their mind until they saw someone else get it). All of this happened last night.

But the icing on the cake was some woman called the desk at 4 am and TOLD (not asked) me to bring “two chilled waters, a bucket of ice, and a bathrobe and slippers” to her room and hung up. We are a 50 room limited service 3 star hotel and I am alone at night. We don’t have bathrobes or slippers and she had a kooking.bom rate of $166 about 60% lower than what we were selling. She’d also complained about her first two rooms and was upgraded. (Not by me) Needless to say, I ignored the request and she eventually came and got the room temperature water herself.

Maybe I should think about wrapping up my 35 year run in the hotel industry because I’ve really come to hate most of these people. Like almost hate them by default until given reason not to.

Anyone have any advice when it comes to trimming the murder mittens? I’d like to retain my flesh but my guy isn’t having any of it.

Medical Directive

Can anyone help? What I’ve found online is quite confusing to me. I’d like to have a legal document that makes my wishes known regarding medical care in the event that I am unable to verbalize them myself. I’d also like to appoint a proxy. Thank you in advance.

Capital One shopping rewards

Is there any recourse or online form to fill out if I’ve used an offer, followed all of the C1 rules but the order shows as “ineligible” for bonus rewards?

For my fellow night auditors: is this happening at any other hotel or just mine?

Has anyone noticed an uptick of 3rd party advance purchase reservations, fully paid with the virtual credit card that are made same day or day before arrival that no-show?

This has happened multiple times in the last few weeks or so. Almost every no show I’ve had has been a 3rd party reservation that was booked either same day or the day before. And fully paid with the VCC. No skin off our noses (at least not directly) but it seems suuuuuper scammy and the third party platforms are going to take the hit if those become chargebacks.

Your kid is graduating from Harvard/MIT/Tufts/Northeastern, etc…

I’m night audit at a Boston hotel and I am puzzled. Every year the parents descend on the hotels in this area and for the life of me I cannot figure out where some of these kids got the smarts to get into these universities from, because quite a few of the parents have ZERO common sense or any other outward signs of intelligence. Rich, entitled and dumb. If the grandparents are tagging along I’ve found that interacting with them is far easier and way more pleasant.

I hate graduation season. When I worked in the hotel business in DC, it did not seem this ridiculous.

This irritates the fck out of me. I checked in a dude last night (an Adoga reservation no less). He came back down and said his keys didn’t work. I made a new set but went up with him to make sure he got into the room. HE WASN’T even trying to get into the right room. How do you mistake 408 for 421? Anyway, we get to the room and he immediately says he doesn’t want it because it’s too close to the elevator and it would be too noisy and HE HAD A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING in the morning . I had ONE other room on the opposite side of the hallway that looks out over the back of the hotel to a quiet neighborhood. 20 mins go by and by this time it’s 2:00am. Now he wants a view of Mass Ave which makes no sense if you require quiet for your VERY IMPORTANT MEETING. I told him as much and also relayed the fact that the room he moved to was my last clean room. I write it up in the log book because fck this guy.

Fast forward to tonight. I come in and am going through my routine and his rez pops up with CRAZY notes. They moved this guy 4 more times for: the window was blowing air into the room (then fucking close it), room too small, desk too small and finally: he didn’t like the vibes in the room.

For those of you at home: that’s 6 rooms that housekeeping had to check, 3 of which required the bed be made or other tasks to make VR. FOR ONE GUEST paying an absolute shit rate.

This should have started and ended with the room change I did last night. It took FOUR MORE changes before day shift finally put their foot down.
