Luzia in Toronto impression

I am from a third-world country. I've been in Canada for more than a decade.

Yesterday, I saw my first Cirque du Soleil show ever with my 9-year-old. I was excited; he was apprehensive. He's not into circus shows he said. He doesn't want to see funny/silly/weird costumes, clowns, magic tricks, loud noises, and other more complaints I don't remember anymore.

So anyway, as I said I was excited, looking forward to my first ever Cirque du Soleil show.

And, I was underwhelmed.

I expected...more, I guess.

To me, it looked like a show by my university's students back in my country. I also took Fine Arts in university btw. But yeah, reminded me of a school play. I thought it would be more world class than that. I still remember my first circus show when I was a kid, it had dolphins.

Anyway, I wasn't moved. I wasn't impressed. Am I spoiled? Is it because we're exposed to these things on the internet?

I mean, yeah, I like that horse puppet. I like those hoolahoop ladies. I like the swings. Most impressed by that lady dangling from her hair/head. That boneless guy, omg. And most of all, the rope guy, the only part of the show that used that water feature. I was expecting more water feature after that, but the show only has one? Why? Also, I didn't really watch any videos nor ads before the show so as not to spoil ourselves. Oh, I especially liked the tuba music during the juggling scene. I found the entire soundtrack on youtube. And that lady, was she actually singing? If yes, cool. But where's the trapeze? Other acrobatics stuff?

My son found the costumes ok and not really weird, it was as expected. No clowns but a bit of clowning, which he didn't understand much, he needs social cues. He likes the juggling. No magicians though. My son also didn't really understand what's happening for most of the time. He had questions, like what's the purpose of the other people in certain scenes? Are they supposed to be there or just distractions or space fillers? Why are they frozen near the end? Is there a story to this?

Again, I wasn't moved nor impressed, expected more from a world-class circus act. Was it worth the price? I don't think so. Still very grateful to have experienced Cirque du Soleil, nevertheless.

Near hit by impatient driver who overtook bus at right turn

Rant

Today at 7:50 ish, I got off at the corner of Esna Park and Alden Rd, along with half a dozen people. It was a green arrow for east/west bound, the two people in front of me didn't push the button on time before traffic light turned green. I crossed anyway, same with some other people behind me, but I looked to my left first and saw the bus was still on the corner waiting to turn right. I quickly crossed to the median when I heard a loud muffler sound coming from the left, confused, thinking is someone coming from Rodick. Nope. It was a speeding car that overtook the bus, and narrowly missed me by a foot or two. If I stepped one step further, the car would surely hit me, good thing my instinct said to stop immediately. And that driver had the gall to sped up in that winding curvy street, passing another bus.

Was he that late to be in such a hurry and overtaking a bus at a corner? Did he need to poop? I should have thrown my heavy water bottle at that car. Why are GTA drivers so impatient and careless.

End rant.
