Car or not car?

Hi! I've been living in Helsinki for 7 years and I might need to relocate near Porvoo for a job. Public transport doesn't reach the hypothetical work location so I'd need a car. I've never owned a car in Finland cuz it was never needed, so I'd like to know from car owners their experiences with living in Helsinki and owning a car (commuting out of the city) and in general owning a car in the country.

I would also like to know from those who have an employment contract and can deduct their car trsvel as commuting expenses. How does that work? Do you negotiate it as benefits or include it in the contract?

Thank you for the help!

Doing research is humbling

I'm teaching myself how to do game user research so that I can use what I learnt in my anthropology degree while I look for a job. Since I play a lot of Animal Crossing: New Horizons I thought to set up a research project because I'm interested in how other players feel about their islands and villagers. I created an anonymous survey to know more about how people play the game, how they go about decorating their island and what they like vs dislike about the game.

But tell me why looking for respondents feels like begging for attention 😭 I feel like such a pick me lmao I asked all my friends who play to fill out the survey but there's still some areas like Oceania and Africa that have gotten no entries.

So, if you want to spend *5-7 minutes answering some questions about your island and speaking your mind about AC:NH as a whole, head over to https://tally.so/r/zxdvRa !!! Help me out plis 😭😭

-----------

UPDATE: Thank you SO much to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey (and also gave ne feedback on it) 🥹 I finally have some decent numbers and can kick off the study properly. I don't have plans to publish a proper paper on this, but I will be making a case study for my portfolio and hopefully present it at a gaming conference here in Helsinki, Finland. Fingers crossed I get accepted as a panelist!! I will share my results and observations here as well, though 🫶

To make sure I don't have too biased data, I would still need a few replies from people located in Africa, Oceania, Central + South America and all parts of Asia (West, North, East, SE and South). If you're located in any of these areas and have 5-7 minutes to spare, I'd love to hear from you 🫶💓

I've written countless cover letters but I still struggle with them..

In sum, I've been job hunting for more than a year as I'm a recent graduate in the great country of Finland which is currently facing a 10.4% unemployment rate. In the past writing cover letters was fun and in Finland they were mostly used to assess your motivation. Now, despite having considerably more expensive, I'm experiencing the worst writer's block of my life.

I don't know how to start my cover letters anymore, because there seems to be new hidden rules to play this job search game that I'm unaware of.

What are your best tips to start cover letters that are not generic? Do you have some nice formula for writing cover letters that mix motivation, skills and results to show you're a "safe hire", especially when moving away from academia?

My context: I'm a sociocultural anthropologist moving into UXResearch or rather, trying to establish myself in UXResearch since I have done a lot of qualitative research across industries during my studies.

I can't believe that in 2026 we still can't buy multiple items in the same category at Able Sisters...it annoys me so much! I always forget what I bought before and end up buying two items in the same colour so many times 😭 I can't be the only one that gets inexplicably annoyed by these small things....

Edit: I also know there are two apps to keep track of all the items I own in the game, but I always forget to log them, so that's on me lol Also I would love to keep track of the gifts I give my villagers, but the apps only log if I own the item not if I gave to a villager or not, sigh

Edit 2: Reading the comments brings up new things that upset me lol For example, when I'm crafting something and then I want to customise something, I need to exit the whole interaction with Tom Nook's bench and then start it again. Make it make sense.
