Advice for chuckwalla background?

I am researching chuckwallas and thinking about enclosure components. I haven't kept an arid species before, especially ones who need such intense heating. I have a few years before I'll be ready to buy anything, so I'm getting a head start on details.

What materials do folks use/recommend to make a custom background for chuckwallas? I'm hoping to get a 4ft tall enclosure and would like to do ledges and such to mimic their native rock faces. I want it to be sturdy enough and stable in their heat requirements, but also tolerate if they jump or try to dig up there a little.

Rate my viv - and a question

Please give me any feedback and recommendations!

This is a 24x18x18 with cork background/sides and two cork tubes siliconed to the back wall. I filled it this week so it needs to grow out. I plan on housing either Ranitomeya sirensis or Phyllobates vittatus in this.

The drainage layer is mostly lecca, with a thin vertical layer of river stone around the visible outsides against the glass. I used water-repellent folders to temporarily hold back the lecca.

Planned edits: I might move the bird's nest fern to the tubes somewhere for epiphytic growth. I will also add some leaf litter soon and hopefully another hide or two before I get any frogs.

Specific question: Should I keep the elevated cork tubes open for the frogs? Or should I plug the center gap to make two hides, or just plug the ends so the frogs can't get into them at all?

Can I reuse these in a dart frog enclosure?

I failed at my first open-top paludarium and let these driftwoods with moss wrapped sit in there while it dried out. Can I just boil them for 20 minutes each and be good to go? Or should I also do a hydrogen peroxide spray/soak or bake? I'm not sure if the black parts are from sitting in the Fluval aquarium substrate or rot - would this matter? I see what I assume is white mold on the walls but it could also be the white aquarium sand residue
