Matching Grant Fundraiser for Schools

Nature is the best classroom. Help a student get there!

For the next three weeks, MNA will match and then double every $200 gift received for environmental education.

Help us raise $5,000 to create more opportunities for hands-on nature learning for Michigan students.

When kids connect with nature early, they build curiosity, confidence, and care for the world around them.

Read our blog post here to learn exactly what your donation supports: https://michigannature.wordpress.com/2026/08/05/back-to-school-back-to-nature/

---

Twice a year, MNA awards grants to K-12 classrooms across Michigan for field trips to natural areas. Each $500 grant helps teachers cover transportation and equipment costs so that more students can experience hands-on nature education in natural areas.

Through our program, we’ve seen nature-based field trips create new experiences with nature, foster social-emotional learning, help science come to life, and deepen connections to nature.

Nature is the best classroom. Help a student get there. Your gift of $25 or more will help a child experience the outdoors.

Muskegon Lake Celebration - 8.15.26

Copied from facebook -

Join us for a FREE day of fun on the lake as we celebrate the incredible restoration and delisting of Muskegon Lake! This family-friendly community celebration will feature something for everyone — from a fun run/walk along the waterfront to hands-on kids activities, delicious eats from local food trucks, and the opportunity to tour the historic S.S. Milwaukee Clipper.

Learn more about the lake’s remarkable comeback by viewing Muskegon Lake educational videos, try something new by learning to kayak, or cast a line in the fishing derby. With activities, entertainment, and plenty of ways to connect with the lake, it’s a day to celebrate the progress that brought Muskegon Lake back and the bright future ahead.

In the evening, join us for a ticketed 80s Celebration — throwing it back to when it all began! When the journey to restore Muskegon Lake started in the 1980s, few could have imagined the incredible success we celebrate today. Now, as the lake is officially delisted, we’re rewinding the clock for a totally rad night honoring the decade that launched the effort.

Not required, but encouraged... Come dressed in your best 80s throwback — neon, leg warmers, big hair and all — and celebrate the transformation of Muskegon Lake with heavy appetizers, a cash bar, DJ, and plenty of dancing.

Mayor Ken Johnson Beach Shuttle Office Hours Sunday June 14th 2026

🌞Summer is here, and our Beach Shuttle is back! 🏖️

This Sunday, June 14, I’ll be holding mobile community office hours aboard the City of Muskegon’s free Beach Shuttle service, operated by MATS.

There’s no formal agenda, just a chance to ride along, talk about city matters, share ideas, ask questions, or simply enjoy the route and our city scenery together. Hope you can join!

At noon on Sunday (6/14), I’ll be boarding at the Herman Ivory Terminal downtown (351 Morris Street), then riding the loop for a couple hours between Aamodt Park in Jackson Hill and Pere Marquette Park on Lake Michigan, with pick-up/drop-off stops along the way.

Around 2pm to 3:30pm, I’ll be at The Deck – Muskegon County’s only beachfront restaurant. Enjoy a beverage or bite to eat, as we continue community conversations. Appetizers are on me😀

Then, for the final couple hours, I’ll be riding the Tan line, which loops between Kruse Park on Lake Michigan and Harbour Towne Beach on Muskegon Lake, with several beach and park stops along the way. Around 3:30pm, I expect to board the shuttle at the “flip-flop” transfer located at Indiana Ave & Beach Street, where I’ll also return around 5:30pm to switch to the Town line for heading back downtown.

🚐 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Riding the Town Line (Route 42)

Jackson Hill-Downtown-Lakeside-Beach connector

🍽️ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Lunch break at The Deck

1601 Beach Street

🚌 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Riding the Tan Line (Route 41)

Beach loop featuring several stops between Kruse Park and Harbour Towne Beach

The Beach Shuttle is completely free to ride, ADA accessible, and equipped with bike racks - connecting neighborhoods, business districts, parks, and our beautiful shoreline while helping to reduce beach traffic congestion.

Come ride, chat, grab lunch, or just say hello. I’d love to hear what’s on your mind and talk about how we can keep moving Muskegon forward together!

Free Botanical Illustration Class today June 13, 2026

Join us for a Botanical Illustration adventure!

Slow down, look closely, and explore the beauty of the natural world through art as we learn the basics of botanical illustration. Together, we’ll observe native plants, flowers, leaves, and other seasonal finds while discovering how artists and naturalists have used illustration to study and document nature for centuries.

We’ll let curiosity guide us as we sketch shapes, textures, and patterns found throughout the landscape, no artistic experience required! This program is all about observation, creativity, and connecting more deeply with the environment around us.

Drawing materials and clipboards will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks or favorite art supplies.

We’ll meet at the Lincoln Lot and explore nearby trails and habitat areas for inspiration. Don’t forget to bring water, comfortable walking shoes, and sun protection!
