Gift cards question

This will be a detailed post. I am friends with a Shoppers Drug Mart assistant manager working in Toronto. My friend is confused about a situation he's facing at work. For the past few weeks, an old white woman has been coming to his store and buying Apple gift cards in the amount of $2,000 to $3,000 each time. When he asked her why she needed so many gift cards, she just said, "I need them for my daughter in Calgary; she needs to buy a laptop." He suspects, and I do too, that she is undergoing some scam, like the digital arrest scam in India. What can he do in this situation? As an employee, he has mentioned it to the manager, but it is not illegal to sell gift cards, and they cannot interfere much in the situation. I asked him if he could go to the police, but since he is on a visa, he is afraid to get involved in that matter. What can he do, or should he just let the situation slide away as it is not his problem?

This is my rant. I recently switched from Spectrum to Metro. Before that, I was with Visible, but Spectrum offered me a free 1-year plan, so I decided to give them a try. Now that I have moved to Metro, it's been nothing but problems.

I'm Canadian and own an iPhone 15 Pro with a physical SIM slot. However, Metro won't allow me to use the 15 Pro with a physical SIM. I also have two or three other handsets that I occasionally use, including the Nothing Phone 1 and an LG G8X ThinQ. T-Mobile seemed to be the only network compatible with all my devices. Spectrum didn't support any of them, but since it was free, I stayed with Spectrum for a year using my iPhone 15 Pro.

Recently, I purchased a refurbished S24 Ultra in the USA, but Metro is saying I can't switch to it because I've only had the iPhone 15 Pro for less than a month. With Visible, I had a SIM card that I could easily pop into any phone, allowing me to use my Nothing Phone and LG device without hassle. It feels as though companies are making the eSIM a hindrance.

I don’t understand why, if the world has moved to unlocked SIM cards, Metro insists that I must use my old phone for a month before I can switch to a different device. This is frustrating. I spent about an hour with a customer service representative trying to explain that I want to use a different device, but it just won’t work.
