Can’t watch the whole thing? This hits the feels like an Ilya chest slap of a job well done!

I watched the Empty Netters review and reacts videos-and I’m wondering if my fellow loons have other suggestions for review/reacts from straight men?

Part of the reason I’ve loved these books and now the show is because the villain is so clearly the culture and I have always firmly believed that if straight white men could just see how stunted their lives are by white supremacist patriarchy that maybe they could finally want to also break free. I believe if more men were watching the men in the books who are at the absolute pinnacle of patriarchy- strong, famous, athletic, wealthy, attractive, leaders and see that they are STILL not enough or safe or fulfilled until they overcome the wounds inflicted by an oppressive and suppressive culture….

I’m in red state America and I don’t think the show has broken containment here. I haven’t spoken to a single straight man who has seen the show here so I’m living vicariously through the idea that there are men other places coming to see the beauty of this show.

Yeah-anyway-any good reacts/reviews recommendations (but I’m not on TikTok or instagram so YouTube or podcasts maybe?) from straight men? They can even be men who are reluctant, suspicious, or not open and big fans at the beginning.

Shane- I don’t know maybe just say “should we talk” and then don’t?
Ilya- i used anger and avoidance but sexily-have you tried that?

Scott-well hiding and failing at love bombing worked for me
Kip- participate in hiding, be mad about it then be mad at all the gifts that make your life easier?

Eric- ambivalent waffling. And don’t forget The ambivalence.
Kyle- are they like your ex and your parents in a way you just can’t get over?

Fabian- everyone wants to have sex with me so maybe look for someone who doesn’t want to so much?
Ryan- I don’t think I’m the best person to ask for advice (caveat-he probably would give you good advice but he just can’t)

Troy- gotta let your life implode, explode and crumble with a side of mutual near death experience so you feel terrible while trying to overcome two decades of patriarchal asshole training then try ice cream. Ice cream and apples?

Harris- embrace yourself. Laugh as often as you can. Be gentle and allow people to feel safe and grow.

Audible is having a big sale (at least in the US) so if you’ve been thinking about getting the audiobooks-this might be the right time!

I don’t know how much they are because I’ve owned them for a looonnngggg time-but other books in the mm and romance genre are in the $2-$6 range so it seems like there is a good chance for a good deal.

Please no audiobook hate. I’ve read AND listened as they came out and I love the physical and the audio and it’s ok if you don’t like them but I’ve loved them for years - terrible kip accent and all!

Audible is having a big sale and I just got 7 Emma M Lion books for about $22 in the US! The books get even cheaper than the sale price it shows when you add them to your cart!

I read them for my first round and looks like I’ll be listening next round! Just wanted to let anyone who might be interested in the audiobooks know-this might be a good time to buy them!

Just thought I would let my loon-ie friends know, today would be a great day to buy something you may have been thinking abut!

Context-I live in really rural Wyoming. I have recommended the show to many people but have only found one other person that watched the show without my interference.

I read the books in the pandemic and made a friend read too.

But I don’t think people in my region are watching. Or even getting the trickle down media hype.

If you also live in a rural place, do you think the show is being watched where you are? Are you recommending it to people?

I genuinely believe media like HR can take mighty whacks at the oppressive systems of white suprematist patriarchy-if straight white men can get glimpses of what their emotional lives could look like if they push back on the system while also watching the harm the system does to them. But I think it’s popularity and buzz is still hanging out in fandoms and big cities. Please prove me wrong?

In all the reheats and noticings…it’s today I learn there’s a nose boop! So I’m sharing this info with you all. If you already knew-you were blessed earlier than me and I don’t begrudge you! But if you-like me-made it to the end of April without knowing-now you do!
