ABRP and Android Auto

Question , when using Android Auto in a Kia Niro EV (2023) I tried to open the ABRP app but the message came up 'this is an android auto premium feature. Now as far as I know there isn't an android auto paid for premium fee for any car, so is it just a wait for a possible update that enables the feature or not as I suspect?

Hi has anyone definitively found out which version of CATL battery is in the Gen2 Niro EV 22 onwards, I think it is probably their NMC 622 lithium -ion, but happy to be corrected if anyone knows better?

So, looking at the development of V2H power, it's the idea that you use your car battery to power your house in the daytime after charging it up on cheap overnight tarrif, apparently the Niro is able to do this but Kia would need to allow the software to do this, plus you need a bidirectional charger which is very pricey. Having said this the Niro allows V2L IE you can plug in appliances to the car, technically you could run an extension lead to your house and plug in a max of 2.1KW, but not run the extension to a plug socket in your house to power your home ring mains. My confusion lies in that they are making it possible to now use plug in solar that puts 480 W directly into your ring mains, isn't this basically the same thing. Anyone know any better or tried it, just curious 🧐

I quite like these smaller yt channels without the gloss and sponsorship, also his logic about the various choices out there at the moment are quite interesting, a few suppliers I had never heard of as well. Each persons needs are different of course but f suppliers who are not upfront with costs and make you wade through a load of forms, its almost like they are trying to maximise the amount of money they can squeeze from you, almost like commercial businesses who supply an essential utility you can't live without.....unless you have a huge solar set up I suppose.

So there are guides on here already which you should read but I thought I would expand some of the excellent points here in the original guide by Chapel_Axe

£50 from Kia - bloody cheek - its why the infotainment warranty is only 3 yrs in UK, so you can trust the rest of the car for 7 but the infotainment for just 3

firstly I bought a very cheap set of plastic car trim removers , they worked but got very chewed up spend more than the £1.50 I did ! or they will end up like this, think they were made from Chewits, or |Jolly Ranchers if in the US

all work was undertaken with the battery connected - didn't cause an issue, but you may prefer to disconnect

Remove the usb port panel - just work a flat chewit tool along the top

https://preview.redd.it/wjf44lz1azxg1.png?width=2893&format=png&auto=webp&s=39cce16317484bab907d7cc7101450ca1ff6eaa6

removing the air vent - its a separate removal to the media climate panel directly below it which is screwed on. The air vents take quite a bit of fiddling but work at then at either end till the panel comes fre

now follow the original guide link above - i did

but when removing the top of the driving column cover just press it in by hand no tools needed

When you come to remove the two screws hidden by the cover you need a very long philips screwdriver or a very short one with a ratchet like this

When you get to fishing the wire to t the infotainment box - use an old sparky trick and tie a string to the old one as you pull it through that way you can tie on the new one to pull it back without fiddling around.

https://preview.redd.it/6ndnltbyczxg1.png?width=2893&format=png&auto=webp&s=d49f61fe8a7eb9b69046ccd602eadf9af7a53a6e

only other thing i found was that the white connector on the new wire was fixed out of the way just behind dash front, poking the side with a screwdriver between the slots sprung its catch and let you pull the old one out, then just poke and fiddle the new one into it, fairly easy.

Anyway stick to the original guide these are just here to help ...what did it work i hear you say?

Word to the wise - make sure you have updated android auto on your phone, plus for it to connect the phone needs to be unlocked for a few seconds and bingo.

So is it fiddly yeah but manageable with just chewit tools and the right screwdrivers, anyhoo im too tight to pay kia to fix something that should be under warranty. proceed with caution read the original guide and study the pictures
