Helgeland/Kystriksveien road trip in late September (25 Sep - 5 Oct)

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a Norway trip for roughly 25 September to 5 October next year.

I've previously visited Lofoten, Tromsø, and Western Norway (Bergen/Geiranger/Stryn area), and this time I'm considering driving Helgelandskysten and Kystriksveien:

Rent a car in Trondheim
↓
Follow the official scenic/coastal route with planned stop(s) in Lovund/Traena
↓
Finish in Bodø

My main concern is that this would be late September / early October, which I understand to be shoulder season. Whilst my partner and I are perfectly happy with rain and cooler temperatures, we are trying to understand whether the route remains logistically manageable, or whether the weather/ferry risk becomes a significant factor given the number of ferry crossings on the route (and the less-frequent operating schedule during the shoulder season).

We have a few questions:

  1. Is this really a "bad" time of year for Kystriksveien?
  2. We will not be renting a motorhome, so accommodation for the whole road trip will be booked in advance. Would this be too much of a risk given potential ferry disruptions?
  3. Are ferry cancellations frequent/a genuine concern at that time of the year?
  4. Are there any parts of the route that become significantly less enjoyable during the shoulder season?
  5. For the trip out to Lovund/Traena, would it be advisable for me to leave the car behind on the mainland? My understanding is that a car is not necessary to get around on either island.
  6. Is there any other part of Norway you would recommend me to visit instead of Kystriksveien during this time of the year?

Thanks in advance! Would love to hear from locals or anyone who has driven the route in autumn.

Redemption for SIN -> BGO

Hi guys, I’m looking at redeeming a business class ticket from Singapore to Bergen, but it shows up as “no flights available” when I attempt the search.

However, there are indeed flights available via CPH when I do a normal search (pay with cash).

Is my only option to redeem the SIN -> CPH ticket, then separately buy a CPH -> BGO ticket? If I go with this arrangement, will the airline be able to “link” my two bookings together into a single itinerary, such that my baggage gets checked through directly to BGO?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
