Jack is not a secondary character in Curse of the Black Pearl.

I see this opinion put forward that Jack is essentially a side character in the first POTC movie and it really makes no sense to me. I mean, yes, it’s true he doesn’t have the character development of Will and Elizabeth, but that doesn’t mean he’s not the protagonist. Everything about the movie tells us he’s the main character.

First of all we have bog standard screen time. Jack gets 44 minutes compared to only 35 mins and 31 mins for Elizabeth and Will respectively. Then in terms of driving the plot he’s vitally important as it all ultimately trickles back to when he was captain of the Black Pearl leading up to Barbossa’s mutiny. Will and Elizabeth ultimately grow as characters because of Jack’s interjection into their lives. Will’s story is the classic hero’s tale, yes, like Luke in A New Hope. But Jack isn’t the Han Solo character who doesn’t appear for the first 40 minutes, he’s involved in the plot at the 10 minute mark. So I really don’t understand why people seem to think he only became the main character in the later films because the truth is he always was.

Who’s your funniest Corrie villain?

We all enjoy a villain that can make us laugh and I think Corrie often excels in that area. For me ultimately it comes down to John Stape and Uncle Stephen (with Stephen just taking it), I guess because those two were intended to be black humour type villains from the get go. But I think even the more strait laced ones can be funny at times. Phelan had a delicious dark sense of humour and the jiggle it Geoff and Mr Boombastic stuff were iconic (even if they did ruin a very serious storyline in that case). Who wins it for you?

Did Ronnie drop the car on top of Carl?

That whole thing has been left hanging in the air for now. I initially thought it was obvious Ronnie did, but so far we have no confirmation and he denied hurting Carl to Debbie.

We know that Ronnie had no intention of helping Carl when he put him in the back of the car. The only reason he ultimately dumped Carl at the hospital was because of Debbie’s message he heard. When he was crying in the car listening to it. Until then he was in the process of dumping Carl (the car was stopped and he definitely wasn’t rushing to a hospital with Carl at that point).

My thing is, if he wasn’t the one to drop the car on him, why bother getting involved at all? If he wants rid of Carl, just close the garage up and leave him on the floor dying. By putting him in the car he was putting himself in the frame if he did peg it (hence him cleaning the car thoroughly afterwards). But crucially we never saw him actually drop the car on him. Maybe that’s significant. But if he wasn’t the one to do it then his actions after finding Carl make no sense.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I’m liking the Daniel/Jodie dynamic.

Daniel has been insufferable at times over the last few months but in all the recent scenes with Jodie he’s come across a lot better. Perhaps because she’s the only one he’s really opened up to and vocalised his feelings to. As for Jodie well…she’s just a very strange character. I feel like I should dislike her because her storyline often feels infuriating and pointless. I mean, five months she’s been on the show and we practically have zero answers to any of the many questions she poses as a character. But despite that I still find her interesting and amusing. The scene with her trying on Ken’s slippers and fittingly filling in the word “interloper” on his crossword puzzle did raise a smile 😂.

I know she’s still playing some kind of game, but I think she has genuine moments of earnest and some of the things she’s said to Daniel I do genuinely believe were said just to make him feel better. If they do eventually pair up it could be interesting.
