Hotel investing: underrated opportunity or unnecessary complexity?

I see investors have very different opinions about hospitality real estate. Some like the potential for daily revenue, tourism demand, and real assets. Others avoid hotels because of operational challenges and economic cycles. For accredited investors who have researched or invested in hotels: Which side are you on and why?

What feels like the safest place to put your money now?

Genuinely curious how your thinking about investing changed after retirement. Do you care more about protecting principal, steady income, liquidity, inflation protection, or something else entirely? And what types of investments do you feel most comfortable holding at this stage of life? Just interested in hearing how people who are actually retired think about risk differently.

Tesla and SpaceX are planning a massive $16.8B semiconductor project in Texas

This one is pretty wild. Tesla and SpaceX have confirmed Grimes County, northwest of Houston, as the location for the first phase of Terafab Texas. The initial phase is expected to involve $16.8 billion in investment and at least 3,000 jobs. The bigger plan calls for a semiconductor manufacturing complex that could eventually exceed 100 million square feet. The idea is to bring chip fabrication, memory, packaging and testing together at one site instead of relying on a supply chain spread across several countries. The 100M+ square-foot figure is the long-term vision, so there is still a huge difference between what has been announced and what ultimately gets built. But even the first phase would be a massive project for Grimes County.

Texas Is Reshaping America’s Innovation Economy

Texas is becoming more influential in America’s innovation economy as its technology base expands beyond software into semiconductor design, advanced manufacturing and high-speed networking infrastructure. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the state’s population at 31,709,821 as of July 1, 2025, providing companies with access to one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing labor and consumer markets. Recently announced projects include Arm’s planned $71 million Austin expansion, expected to create more than 320 jobs, and Applied Optoelectronics’ planned manufacturing expansion in Sugar Land, representing more than $279 million in investment and an expected 500 jobs. Texas has not replaced Silicon Valley, but these projects show that the state is increasingly supporting the research, production and infrastructure behind modern technology.
