Overdyeing success

I’ve posted here before about dyeing this formerly beige dress with Proxion MX. my first attempt came out patchy because I left it overnight and did not stir enough. I was advised here not to spot dye the patches but to either remove the dye and start over or overdye it and live with the patchiness.

Because it’s 5% cashmere and dye remover requires high heat, I went for overdyeing. And when the patchiness was still a little obvious, I spot dyed it anyway! I figured dark and patchy is better than light and patchy.

As you can see, the cat approves. I think it’s not to noticeable in lower light conditions. The close-up pics show where some of the pale spots are. I’m fairly happy with the results, which is great because my washing machine was removed this morning to make room for construction. Done dyeing for the time being, but this sub was very helpful and I hope I can come back to it.

Quick way to fix patchy dye?

My first Procion dyeing experiment has mixed results. The main goal was to dye a beige sweater dress dark red. This mission has been accomplished, but in a patchy way. Perhaps I should have stirred more? I let it sit overnight because I read that this helps intensify the color, but of course I was not stirring all night like the witches from Macbeth.

I have a bit of dye left; could I mix it with water and spot treat the lighter areas? I know I won’t get uniform results this way, but I hate to take out the dye and start over after all this. Also, I have one more week of access to a washing machine before we take it all out for renovation, so a quicker process is my friend right now.

The pictures also show a linen bread bag that I dyed mainly because I could, but also to keep the dress submerged, and a white undershirt of my husband’s that I ice dyed for fun. I love how the shirt came out, and I also appreciate that the linen is no longer beige.

Strategic timing for buying appliances

My husband identified good prices on appliances and then the sale ended. Now he’s stressing about buying them all now before the price changes again. Am I right to think that we might as well wait for a Memorial Day sale or similar? It’s for a kitchen renovation that will probably end in late June, so we have time.

We are homeowners doing a kitchen renovation. We went slab shopping last weekend and discovered a slab we liked. I called for a quote today and the salesman said it was color treated granite that can’t be used outside.

That’s a new one on me. I like granite for its durability. I am not planning to use the granite outside, but would the color treatment make it a bad idea to use this granite under a window? I live in Southern California and we get tons of sun generally. Also, does color treatment on granite have any other surprise flaws I need to know about?
