Do you guys auto update drivers?
Aloha friends, is there any reason to worry that gpu driver updates could break the egpu recognition connection that was worked so reliably for me?'

Aloha friends,
I see a bunch of posts about the GT Max so figured I may as well post about the GT's since they are what I chose.
I bought the Air 4 Pros about 2 weeks before the GTs came out. Didn't realize GT/Max were coming. Liked em a lot, no complaints.
GTs arrived and I do prefer them to the Air 4 Pros (which I have now returned). Just a me thing but the GTs sit closer to my eyes and there is a larger 'goldilocks zone' for me with the GTs where the picture stays sharp. I didnt have any clarity issues with the Air 4's, but they did have to stay in one tight specific spot more than the GTs do.
The picture is great on the GTs, no issue with the lack of HDR for me. Being able to do Steady/Pinned mode is excellent as well as being able to reduce the picture size down to 85%.
All in all, the GTs are fantastic and I have no complaints about glasses.
I do have an issue with the lens cover I added on (does not come w/ glasses), which does not snap on to the lenses and is annoying.
Aloha all,
Adding my piece here to help the next person. You can find the answer by searching the history in but always good to add another to the mix.
Two problems here:
the fix: you do have to download the below PD firmware update, which is not in armoury crate. download this with the egpu NOT plugged in.
scroll down and look for the 4/29
"PD_FW Firmware Version 0019 4.23 MB 2026/04/29"
https://rog.asus.com/us/gaming-handhelds/rog-ally/rog-xbox-ally-x-2025/helpdesk_bios/
once downloaded, the gpu was recognized and i could install the drivers. no issues with plug and play since.
the fix: turn off game mode in windows settings. instant fix - gets up to 35W, significantly better performance.
cheers friends - happy gaming
Aloha friends,
Getting ready to pull the trigger here - just discovered this sub. My goal is a fairly quiet, power efficient, living room setup, capped at 60fps.
I've read some of the problems folks have with noise and heat. I've got the below queued up for about $1600 (including case) - live in Hawaii so limited access to parts (shipping GPUs is a no-go for many).
Parts list look solid, anything to warn me about? Thanks!
About 8 months ago i tried out an egpu setup and found it very lacking - a lot of crashes, not super plug and play, trouble recognizing drivers, forced shutdowns any time i needed to use or not use the egpu.
Has it gotten any better? Hows drivers? AMD or Nvidia GPU? Can you unplug the egpu when the device is hibernating and not have it crash when you turn it on?
Am nearing the end of PoP after finishing SS and Sols and boy is it a nice change of pace to have bosses that are just regular 'challenging'.
Vahram on the bridge probably took me 10-15tries, Odin and the forest queen probably about 5-10, but mostly I've died 2-5 times.
Silksong is probably my game of the decade so I'm here for the challenge, but it's incredibly refreshing to just have regular challenging bosses after the SS/Sols back to back.
Are there any charging stands/docks that work when the grip is on the device? What are you using?
Planning to get an egpu setup but I am concerned about putting my windows PC into sleep (hibernate) with the egpu connected, with it still being recognized when coming out of sleep. I don't want to have to reboot/shut off the device every time.
how does yours work in this regard?
the only two taxing game I have on my Ally X are Elden Ring and No Rest for the Wicked. A day or two after launch, neither seemed to be working at all with Auto SR, 1440p Auto SR on 720p the image quality both looked and ran worse than at 1080p Auto SR off.
was hoping it was just a launch bug but haven't gone back since. am accepting that maybe its just the games I tried, one being FromSoft and the other in early access.
how is Auto SR working for you? are you actually getting relatively clean images at higher res?
