New player: Legacy + Retaliation OR Legacy + OG.

So, if Legacy didn't exist I'd be tempted to get Retaliation.

However, I really like that Legacy is using gamebooks for the maps to reduce setup time.

The backwards compatibility with Retaliation is cool, but honestly, I think it's unlikely I'll ever exhaust the content for a single game let alone two. And if setup with Legacy's Infinity Mode is quicker, then I'm going to tend towards that.

OG Nemesis has been compared to Betrayal at House on the Hill but better, which is actually a game I enjoy, until the traitor flip happens and the ending always seems terribly anticlimatic (negating the fun build-up at the beginning.)

EDIT: also one of my pet peeves is games that feel fiddly. Granted, I don't mind playing War or the Ring, even if there's lots of pieces it doesn't strike me as fiddly.

Also apparently if you only buy the new Legacy stuff, you're getting your stuff in Q3 2028 as opposed to some stuff in Q4 2027.

So what would you pick? I mean, I could also just buy all 3...

Haven't played the games - how fiddly does they feel?

*do they feel

During the game, how much time is thinking about and executing your actions and how much time is spent updating the board state?

Best Loremaster picks remix

There's a lot of old threads, so I'm curious if any opinions have changed:

For instance, I don't see much mention of Stunning Critical which requires a BAB of 17 and was apparently added in the last DLC. I have not used it enough to really see how useful it is, but Stagger (if the save is passed) and Stun (if the save is failed) seems too good to pass up.

Similarly, I am not sure if Two-Weapon Feint is a valid pick.

Improved Improved Critical and other Trickster feats are options as a Rogue Secret, though on a Keen weapon it only increases the threat range by 1 (rather than the expected 2.) Maybe it works differently with Improved Critical.

Improved Cleaving Finish would require also picking Cleaving Finish (I think).

Take Precise Shot to bypass Point Blank Shot.

As for spells:

Divine Power, Mass Heal, Creeping Doom, Bark Skin or Haste if you don't have them.

Any other thoughts?

How often do you rest?

On Hard, I generally try to do no rests during a dungeon, or at most one rest if I really need to or it is appropriate (e.g. after the balor fight in Drezen, before breaching the inner citadel.)

However, that does tend to force Abundant Casting and Enduring Spells to a greater degree.

What's your thoughts on resting and does the built-in Corruption system sufficiently discourage it?

Are there any shield options remotely as good as Mythic Flying Buckler?

Designing a new party (since character creation is half the fun) for an Azata run:

If I have one shield using party member (Seelah), is it overwhelmingly obvious she should just take Mythic Flying Buckler?

(Exceptions: everyone has a Shield bonus from the spell, shields of their own, or that level 6 Angel spell.)

If we suddenly have TWO party members with shields (a shock, I know), what would you have the non-buckler character use?

Best auto-attack builds for RTWP on Hard (or even Unfair) difficulty?

The game has a ton of combat, and while I don't mind taking command during significant or difficult fights, I also like to bulldoze my way through dungeons with no resting and minimal micro.

For instance, Ember is often auto-casting Evil Eye in most trash encounters, and in one playthrough Daeren is Final Feint boi (and that Combat Expertise gives him plenty of extra AC since he wasn't doing much damage to anyone anyways.)

Similarly, I like a 5 or 6 level splash of Freebooter on Lann or Wenduag for Freebooter's Bane and Bond but technically those require micro to upkeep the effect, same with making Seelah a Skald with Lingering Performance. (And while Seelah as Skald is fun once, maybe we don't want to do that every run.)

My next run won't involve Mounts or Pets but if you want to tell me how Daeren is fantastic dual wielding rapiers on his Wolf, I won't stop you.

What sort of atypical playthroughs have you done? And your "house rules"?

Personally, I never use Mounts or Protective Luck.

Before I downloaded Bubble's Buffs, I also played with a "no buffs" rule for Kingmaker. (However, a lot of Divine spells and abilities in general are buffs.)

I was also considering an increased XP Unfair run (while sticking to No Mounts, Pets, or Protective Luck rule) and skipping boring side quests.

Have you done any whacky playthroughs that you thought were fun?

Crane Riposte triggered by Blur/Displace, Vital Strike + Cleaving Finish, and other interactions

There's a lot of interactions that aren't entirely obvious in WotR.

I am (unintentionally) benefitting from Crane Riposte with Displacement currently.

Another is using Headbands of Intelligence to qualify for Combat Expertise or similar feats.

What other interactions do you think are worth pointing out?

Interesting builds for Angel run? Or unique builds for other paths? Two down.

I have done TWF Demon into Legend, and I'm finishing up Hell Knight Aeon.

I'd like to:

  1. Maybe play a caster that doesn't just buff.
  2. Enjoy a Vital Strike - Cleave build (maybe during a Trickster run?)
  3. Avoid using pets, since I've used them in previous runs.
  4. Play on (modified) Hard. (I like being able to heal mid-combat, and use story companions.)
  5. Azata is probably a bit too silly / I want to avoid "pets" so sorry Aivu and maybe that nixes Lich. (Unless there's a way to mod out your skeleton?)
  6. Addendum: I now play with no resting. (And modified healing because micromanaging healing out of combat is lame.)

I'm tempted to do the classic Angel Oracle, but maybe that's not the best choice.

Given the choice would you:

A) Angel Oracle / something.

B) Angel Rowdy Rogue / whatever.

C) ???

Braggart (the level 2 Order of the Cockatrice) morale bonus to attacking Feared targets stacks.

That is all. Works with the Greater Heroism boots at least.

Yes, I am aware Morale bonuses should not stack.

Now, let me and Regill (splashed into Disciple of the Pike level 2 for Outflank, AC, Dazzling Display, and Braggart) make more demons run in terror.
