Bought a house with two large pear trees. I think they are either Kieffer or Bartlett pears. But there’s so many on there and I would love to find some good recipes for preserving them. I found one on the Ball website for Salted Carmel Pear Butter that we will try but does anyone have any others they recommend?
This all just went down a half hour ago. My son just turned 2 and we went to our local splash pad and today. There was a group of 4 older boys (maybe 8-9ish) roughhousing and running around. No problem, I’ll just watch my LO and make sure he doesn’t run into their path.
One of the boys seems to kinda eye up my son while he’s playing with one of those water blasters. The kid comes over and snatches it out of my son’s hands, says no, and won’t let go. I went up to him, said my son was playing with that, and asked him to let it go. He said “too bad I am now.” I told him that wasn’t nice or how you share and he just ignored me. Not gonna fight the kid.
We walked away and I was looking for his mom to say something about his behavior. He then went over to the little splash spot my son was at and sat on it. My son just stared at him, we had an identical interaction to the one before, and my son put his head down and started crying. A very kind grandpa who was there with his grand daughter offered my son a cookie, and told me that unfortunately we will get that a lot in the world and that his autistic grandkid was just being bullied by the same kid and when he said something to the mom, she did nothing.
I spotted the mom and told her that I didn’t appreciate her son taking stuff from a baby. She scoffed at me, yelled at her kid to get over there, didn’t apologize or anything, and then ALLOWED HER OLDER SON TO BEAT THIS BOY OVER AND OVER WITH HIS FISTS IN HIS HEAD.
I was shocked. The oldest of the 3 tried to break it up and the mom said “no I told him he could”. I said what the fuck and they ended up leaving.
But like, WHAT THE FUCK. Not like I can call the cops for child abuse because they left and I have no idea who they are. And also, it was another kid so is that child abuse? I have literally never experienced anything like that and have no idea what to do now.
Update: I called the cops and gave a description. They basically said it’s kids getting into a fight and nothing they can do about it.
I think this looks okay? Long time canner, first time fermenting! Any tips or tricks? (Also I removed that floating bay leaf) recipe said 1.5in headspace. Seems like maybe a little more but is that okay?

6 half pints of jalapeño jelly
4 half pints and a pint of triple berry jam (already gave some away)
10 half pints of relish (already gave some away)
2 quarts of pickles
1 quart of beans
3 frozen tomato sauces
This is the recipe. I don’t see anything wrong with it. Would you throw it out or eat it?
This will be our first time with him exposed to poison ivy. We have 10 acres and it’s popping up everywhere in our tree line. We tell him to keep out of the weeds but he is a toddler and ran straight into a huge amount of poison ivy.
He’s currently in a Luke warm bath and we have washed with dish soap. Any other tips or tricks before it gets bad?
I often give my family canned items as just little thinking of you and thank you gifts and would like to pretty them up a bit. I saw these lids on amazon and was curious if anyone has used these and if they work well or if I would be wasting money and time with them.
Also- has anyone found jars that are like fruit shaped for jams that are water bath canning safe?
