Backpacking recs?

Hi! I’m new to adventuring in SoCal and need some advice for trip planning.

I’m hoping to go backpacking over Halloweekend this year and would appreciate any recs for trails! Was going to do a JTree trip but realized I always end up prefer being away from crowds…

I’m coming from Riverside and would love to not drive more than 2 hours. Looking for a trail <20 miles for a very chill scenic out and back two night trip. Ideally with a body of water nearby but I know that’s likely tough given the time of year and location. Definitely down for some cool desert spots

Thanks!!

Spot for open water swimming?

Driving from Placerville to Palisades on Friday before I run Broken Arrow on Sunday. Hoping to do a chill open water swim in the lake (while my girlfriend paddleboards beside me) somewhere on the west side along our route, any good spots? Not super familiar with that side of the lake

Have an Instinct 2, thinking about upgrading! Need some advice

Hey! I’ve had an Instinct 2 for about 4 years now and have really loved it.

I’ve been thinking about upgrading for a few reasons:

  1. It doesn’t track your heart rate while swimming. It does lap numbers just fine but no heart rate data.
  2. The battery life isn’t what I want. I need something that can track multiple 8+ hour activities back to back ideally.

What I really love about the Instinct 2 is that it still feels like a watch and it’s not overly techy. It’s just my personal preference, but I love the feeling of not having a super duper smart watch. Hopefully that makes sense.

I saw the Instinct 3 came out recently and am curious about that, or any other recommendations folks might have!
