Live Music: Sony A5100 + 7Artisans MF 25mm f1.8

For once I could use a camera at a show, not that I had a particularly note worthy kit on me but I figure a $70 MF lens should be interesting in this environment. Relied heavily on high ISO and focus peaking to do the work and DxO denoising in post.

The band was Nemophila, a 4 piece Japanese all-female metal band, shot at Lee's Palace in Toronto on July 2.

Sharing pics from Nemophila @ Lee's Palace, Toronto

Great show, I brought a small mirrorless camera with me with a cheap manual focus prime lens(~38mm FF equiv). I stood on the audience left side of the stage outside of the floor area next to a giant subwoofer and in front of Hara the whole time. I think the pics turned out ok.

'Tis Season of Vices?

Just an observation of this season(and maybe also next season) of anime(and I guess by extension, manga or other source material from recent years). Seems like anime is bringing the vices back? Some maybe as a plot device(Kamina Botan and drinking, Smoking behind the Super Market and, uh, smoking). Some maybe just a thing they do a lot(smoking in Nippon Sangoku). Certainly plainly stating it in the title is kinda interesting to me also. There are also shows like Drops of God or the bartender anime that I forgot the name of. I've watched anime long enough to know they never really went away, but it just feels like its a lot more on the nose? Been to Japan many times myself in the recent year to know they are still very much a smoking place, whereas I feel like as someone who went to college in early 2000s in Canada the places you can do that in public(bar/restaurant) is few and far between here. Just an interesting trend I guess since these vices are so prevalent it seems this year in particular.

I am not sure where I stand on it. I don't smoke(normal, electronic, or pot), I do drink. The fact that its in the theme kinda automatically push it out of normal teen/high school setting(though in the beginning of Nippon Sangoku the MC was 15 and was smoking, despite also the show starts with the warning disclaimer about you need to be 20 to smoke). Its rather rare now in most media to see such an overt indulgence in this kind of action...

Beef Noodle Soup - Mom's recipe

Every family probably does it slightly differently, and also different from what you might find in restaurants. To me the main thing for the taste is the beef shank, chili bean paste and chewy noodles. My family uses tomatoes in the soup base, and I added beef tendon in this batch. I am actually using ready made korean Kalguksu noodles(knife cut noodles) that seems to work better to my taste the the Chinese ones I find around here. One of my favorite comfort food to make.

Uni-cream Pasta...

Had similar style pasta dish at 2 different restaurants on 2 separate trips to Japan. Really quite fantastic both times.

My Attempts of Street Photography in Tokyo...

On my recent trip to Tokyo I've tried to make street photography(emphasis on tried) a focus of my toying with my camera. I don't think ultimately I am that comfortable with more intimate focal lengths so a lot of these are still from some distance away.

Tokyo: The Sights with my A7IV

Yeah I did shoot a lot of photos of people, more so maybe than I ever did before just to challenge myself to do more "street photography". I still tried to hit some spots to try to get shots of landmarks. I've been here many times so to shoot something different for some of the spots was an interesting assignment. And some I just never did it despite them being obvious....

Tokyo: Life under the lights....w/ A7IV

I wish where I live normally is this interesting to walk around(or just good for walking, in general), but I feel like I can never resist going out into the night to find things to shoot. Maybe its because I stayed near Shimbashi....

Some of these I shot during a photography tour around Shinjuku/Shibuya with a locally based photog and he was showing us(a couple participants for this tour) cools spots and shots to take at those spots.

Eishin Flash at the NHK Mile Cup race day

I'm at the Tokyo Racecourse today, though i actually won't stay for the G1 race because i have a concert to go to later in the afternoon but i figure i want to catch the race weekend even just a bit. JRA races are definitely cool event to attend in general. Also picked up some T shirt and race towel.

It's crazy the consecutive G1 races here this time of the year.
