How should I look for contributors for my open-source project?

Hi, I have been working on a project for the last couple of weeks. Now I feel that this project needs people to participate, contribute, and build a robust knowledge base. But I am not quite sure how to look for contributors for my project. Tried posting in some Reddit subreddits, but either getting no response or moderators deleting the post, saying I am doing self-promotion.

Need your expert suggestions, please ...

I open-sourced an interactive Islamic history timeline, map, and graph — looking for contributors

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I recently open-sourced a project called The Chronicle of Light.

It is an interactive web application for exploring Islamic history through:

  • a historical timeline
  • a geolocated map of events
  • a connected graph of people, places, and events
  • structured event data with references and source links

GitHub repo:

Live demo:

I am looking for contributors from different backgrounds. You do not need to be only a programmer to contribute.

You can help with:

  • adding verified historical events
  • correcting or improving existing event descriptions
  • adding reliable references/sources
  • improving the UI/UX
  • fixing bugs
  • improving documentation
  • suggesting features
  • testing the app on mobile and desktop

I have added issue templates for bug reports, new event requests, event corrections, and feature requests. I am also adding beginner-friendly issues for first-time contributors.

The goal is to build a useful open-source educational tool for students, researchers, teachers, and anyone interested in Islamic history.

Feedback, suggestions, issues, pull requests, and stars are all welcome.
