Which air wrap should I get?

Hi everyone! I’m thinking about asking for an air wrap for Christmas but it seems like there’s quite a few options depending on your hair?

For context I have fine wavy hair (2b/2c) and would use the air wrap as an easier alternative to doing a full wavy hair routine because my hair takes what feels like forever to diffuse - My current routine involves washing my hair every night then brushing it out and complaining about how flat my roots are and how frizzy my hair is lmao

I also don’t have much experience with hair tools so would it be easy enough for a beginner to use? Thanks!

Early stages of writing advice

Hi everyone! It’s my first time on this thread so I hope this is the right place to post this:

I had an idea for a book a couple of months ago and even though I’m not an author, this idea has excited me to the point I’ve decided to try and write it in the hopes that it could even be published someday. I’ve never written a real book before, (technically I wrote a 200+ page book when I was 12 but let’s just say it was so awful I don’t count it lol), so I don’t really have a process.

For context, my book falls within science fiction/fantasy so I’m going to have to tackle a lot of worldbuilding, including creating an alien civilization. So far my ideas have been dumped on a single word document with minimal organization, so it resembles the ramblings of a lunatic. I would love to hear how other writers here plan their stories and characters or just any tips they find help with the writing process? I get the feeling there’s a much better and easier way of doing it compared to what I’m doing now haha

Looking for actors?

Hi everyone! This is my first time here so sorry if this violates any guidelines, but I'm a London-based actress looking for work to build credits for my showreel. I attended a part time theatre school for five years, done a couple of student films before and have some LAMDA acting qualifications.

I know this thread is for scriptwriting, but if you reach a point where these scripts move into production and you're looking actors, please send me a DM :)

Thanks!

Submitting to an agent as a new actor

Hi everyone,

I'm an actor looking to start professional acting (for context I went to a part time theatre school, have some LAMDA qualifications and been in a couple of student films). My plan was to do a few student/low budget unpaid projects to put together a reel to submit to agents, but I haven't really had much luck. I pretty much always get invited to submit a self tape after my initial application, but because there's so many actors applying for the same role on a public platform, it's so difficult to actually book the job regardless of the quality of my tape.

I know that's just how it is an actor, but it's getting pretty crushing given that this was supposed to be the first step on the ladder. I'm at a point now where I'm thinking I should drop this strategy and jump straight to applying to agents, but instead of having a reel, I just film myself doing some short monologues and pitching myself that way.

I don't know a lot of actors personally so I'd really appreciate any advice on this, especially on how many monologues I should prepare and where I could look for some good monologues that are not overdone?

It feels very delusional to believe I could land an agent at this stage, but honestly I'm already going insane over here so I might as well just lean into the crazy and go for it lol

Accent work tips

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone here knows of some good resources/tips for developing an authentic American accent?

I usually play British characters, so I tend to just use my normal voice (my native accent is modern RP), but I want to have a flawless (or at least near flawless) American accent locked down for when I'll very likely need it in the future. Ideally I'd get a coach, but I can't really afford it at the moment so I'm looking for ways to self-study at least for now.

My main concern is that I've only ever needed an American accent for musical theatre roles in the past, so the accent is a bit more exaggerated than what you would hear in day to day life. Would greatly appreciate any advice on this/accent work in general. Thanks!

Advice for networking events?

I’ve got a networking event for actors and filmmakers coming up but I’ve never actually been to one before. I feel 70% confident I won’t make a fool of myself, but regardless would appreciate any tips/things I should know beforehand? Thanks :)
