According to the Sthala Purana, at the beginning of Kali Yuga, Akasha Raju, the father of Sri Padmavati Devi, ruled the area in and around present-day Narayanavanam. It is said that, some time before Sri Padmavati Devi’s marriage, Sri Bhu Narasimha Swamy appeared to the king in a dream and revealed that He resided in that place with four arms and was worshipped alongside His divine consorts, Sri Devi and Bhu Devi.
Historical accounts suggest that Akasha Raju visited the Lord, who was residing at this location, and immediately built the temple’s sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagriha). Moreover, it is believed that Sri Venkateswara Swamy used to visit this place in the past and bathe in the Theertham near the temple.
