Drills to fix hand and bat angle at launch position?

My son has developed a really bad habit of laying his bat down behind his head during his load and stride into launch position where the barrel ends up basically behind his front shoulder and the knob is pointed at the umpire's head. His load, coil, stride, swing are pretty good but he tends to be late on pitches due to his long swing from behind his front shoulder.

What drills can we do to break this habit? We've been doing a load, pause, stride, pause drill to make sure he is in the correct launch position before he swings on the tee but it all breaks down once we get into live pitching. is it just a reps thing?

My first real premium glove

Took a while to come in but ordered custom. Super happy with it. Almost don't even want to break it in.

On a reread I'm starting to feel like Patrick is the real hero. Much like Sam in LOTR.

He's always there and reliable. He killed a vae'kes. He has saved the group multiple times. Personal apprentice to the most famous elementalist on the planet. Patrick is the real deal.

Inside move to second base but pitcher throw to SS. NFHS ruleset

My understanding is any pickoff move has to be thrown to the base and not the position but in a game today the RHP made an inside move and stepped to the SS and threw it. SS was probably ten feet away from the base when he received the ball. I know you can feint a throw to 2b but I thought any pickoff moves need to be to the base. Clarification is appreciated.

At what age do kids that pitch in youth club ball stop pitching?

My son plays MI, C, P, and CF. Mostly SS and catcher but will pitch on long tournament weekends. He plays club ball and throws hard but can be hot/cold with location. At what point do we say he's no longer a pitcher and just needs to focus on MI and catcher? I feel like 11 or 12u is when you have to shit or get off the pot with pitching but want input from the group. I don't want him pitching and catching in the same game so it seems like we need to decide sooner than later. Your thoughts ?

New gerbil enclosure

We are buying a new set of gerbils for the kiddos. I went into full nerd mode and bought a 60gallon breeder and built a custom topper. How'd I do?

What should umpire do when batter runner misses first base on his way to second? NFHS rules

Batter hits a ball to third baseman who air mails it to first. There is incidental contact between BR and first baseman at the bag as the first baseman was going for the ball. This causes batter runner to slightly miss the bag and he then proceeds to second base. The ball is gathered up and thrown to the pitcher. Everyone on the field thinks BR touched the bag except the ump. Play is about to resume normally with the next batter but the umpire is standing in the field looking at the pitcher who has the ball and pointing to first base. The coach then tells the kid to throw to first and now the batter runner is out.

My understanding is that in this situation the defensive coach should call time to contest the batter runner touching the base and then have the pitcher throw to the base before the next pitch. At that point if the umpire agrees that he missed the bag the runner would be out. What is actually supposed to happen in this situation?

Edit: these are paid travel ball umpires.
