While it's okay to not like the show, the most outspoken haters are actually the ones who didn't really watch the show. When you check what they hate about the show, it only makes it obvious that they haven't seen it. Welcome to the internet.
I can't really say that TBBT made me smarter, but I do think it made me way more curious about things I probably would've never encountered otherwise.
That's why I always find it funny when people dismiss the show as being "just a stupid sitcom."
Like, imagine watching a comedy and somehow ending up knowing who George Smoot and Peter Higgs are 😂
I remember hearing things like the Higgs boson, string theory, quantum entanglement, Schrodinger's cat, the double-slit experiment, P vs NP, dark matter, exoplanets, etc. and thinking, "Wait, what the hell are they talking about?" So naturally I'd look it up.
Obviously I know the show isn't a science textbook. A lot of the science is exaggerated or straight-up used as a punchline but that's not really the point.
Sometimes you only need to hear a weird word or an interesting idea once for it to stick in your head. Then years later you see "Higgs boson" somewhere and go, "Oh shit, I know what this is!"
It really made me the kind of person who occasionally knows an oddly specific scientific fact.
I may have been rewatching this show too much because I keep noticing things that never bothered me before.
In the episode where Raj breaks up with Emily so he can date Claire, he's a total asshole. Then Claire doesn't want to be with him because she just got back with her boyfriend, so Raj goes crawling back to Emily, and she understandably rejects him.
Later, there's an episode where Emily sends Raj a gift. Penny, Bernadette, and Amy immediately tell Raj that Emily is just trying to manipulate him into getting back together and that he shouldn't fall for it.
Why? Raj is the one who dumped Emily. He's the one who left her for someone else. I don't understand why the girls act like Emily is the one being manipulative or in the wrong? Did I miss something?
When he said this, the most logical action was to get back together with her. Why do you think he decided not to even if he really wanted to? The Sheldon I know would do anything to get what he wants. I think this is one of the rare times he's actually not a robot and I think it's beautiful.
I'm not questioning his actions, just really thinking about the thought process.
While we’re all fans of TBBT, are you also fans of the actors themselves and their work outside the show? I've followed some of their careers after the show ended. It’s always interesting to see them take on completely different roles.
Jim is probably my favorite. I’ve watched almost everything he’s done, and I genuinely think he’s a fantastic actor. I’ve seen him in The Normal Heart, Hollywood, The Boys in the Band, Hidden Figures, and Spoiler Alert. He’s also done quite a lot of Broadway and theater, which I think gets overlooked because those projects aren’t as visible to the general audience. I actually think Jim has had a pretty interesting career after TBBT, contrary to what some people say. He’s done film, TV, and a lot of theater, and from everything I’ve seen, he seems like he’s having the time of his life. I’ve loved pretty much every version of him I’ve seen.
I’ve also followed Kaley’s career. I really like her, and she's really good in The Flight Attendant, but for some reason, I haven’t connected with her other characters in quite the same way I did with Penny. Maybe I just love her portrayal of Penny so much that it’s difficult for me to separate the two.
Melissa was great in Night Court, although I didn’t really connect with the show itself. Same with Mayim in Call Me Kat, the show just wasn’t for me.
I also really enjoyed Simon in The Audacity, especially because he’s still playing as a science guy. He’s really a very good actor, and I’m still surprised he never got an Emmy nomination for his work on TBBT. I think he deserved more recognition for what he did with Howard.
As for Johnny and Kunal, I think there wasn't much post-TBBT, so I don’t have much to say there.
This is Sheldon’s relationship ranking:
I didn’t agree with Sheldon the first time I watched it, but after countless rewatches, I think he's actually right.
Sheldon and Amy: Indeed the number one couple. They genuinely grew because of each other. Amy learned how to work with Sheldon’s quirks, while Sheldon gradually learned empathy and compromise. Like Amy said, she turned Sheldon into a functioning boyfriend.
Howard and Bernadette: They’re chaotic (mostly because of all the screaming) but they’re really compatible. They understand each other’s personalities really well. I also realized that they actually communicate and work through their problems instead of simply walking away from each other. They’re a much better match than they initially seemed.
Raj and Emily: They actually had genuine chemistry and Emily knew how to handle Raj better than most people did. She wasn’t afraid of his insecurities. The biggest problem was Raj himself.
Leonard and Penny: I actually agree with Sheldon here. I know that they genuinely love each other but they just don’t have anything in common. Leonard is so insecure while Penny can sometimes be dismissive of the things that matter to him. This is how they were until the end of the show.
So after years of rewatches, I have to admit it: Sheldon’s ranking makes a lot more sense than I originally thought.
What are your thoughts?
I am 100% enjoying the show and I think it's really fun to watch. I believe this is because I'm a huge TBBT fan and I understand who these characters are. Additionally, I'm just really excited for the Easter eggs and surprise appearance.
But somehow, I kinda feel it's a stupid show. Is there anyone here who is not a fan of TBBT and enjoys the show?
I'd like to know how non-TBBT fans pereceive it.
Since it's his birthday, let's talk about his character.
Is there any scene in the show where Sheldon won against Wheaton? I only remember Sheldon always losing to Wheaton.
Might be a nonsense questions but I'd just like to know your thoughts. Let's include guests and literally anyone who ever appeared on the show.
I think, Amy Farrah Fowler is such a great name. It's so satisfying to say.
I finally finished Jessica Radloff's The Big Bang Theory book, and I honestly learned so much about what went on behind the scenes.
The amount of work that went into the show was incredible. It's kind of laughable seeing people dismiss it as "just a dumb sitcom" when there was so much care put into every detail. The science and the equations on the whiteboards were accurate, and they even had real scientists consulting to make sure they got things right.
Some of my favorite stories were how Caltech ended up embracing the show after initially not wanting to be associated with it before it aired, how Nobel Prize winner George Smoot was such a fan that he asked to appear on the show, how Stephen Hawking attended a live taping and spent time hanging out with the cast and crew, how Leonard Nimoy visited the set to record his voice when he could've done it at home, and so much more.
One of the most heartwarming parts of the book was learning about the cast's relationships off-screen especially Johnny and Kaley. I feel like they are soul mates (not romantically). They genuinely seemed to love and support one another, and it made me appreciate the show even more.
Now I really want to rewatch the entire series knowing all these behind-the-scenes stories. I have a feeling I'll appreciate so many moments even more now.
Absolutely loved the book. Even if you're already a fan of the show, I'd highly recommend reading it. Got it on Amazon for $16.

Generally, people on Reddit who aren't on this sub seem to hate TBBT, and I don't really know why. Some people even call it "the unfunniest show ever," which doesn't make much sense to me if they never actually watched it. So did they hate it but keep watching anyway just so they could come up with that opinion? I get that it's not everyone's type of humor, but sometimes it feels like they want to convince everyone else to hate the show too.
Additionally, I've seen a few comments on Jim Parsons, with people saying he didn't deserve his Emmys and that he can't act outside of Sheldon. I've seen almost everything Jim has ever done, and I never saw Sheldon in any of those performances. I've watched The Normal Heart, Hidden Figures, and Spoiler Alert, and I can honestly say he's a versatile actor. I think it's mostly because his voice is so distinct, and after playing Sheldon for 12 years, people automatically associate that voice with the character.
It seems like some people hate TBBT simply because it's popular. What are your thoughts?
Is it pretty much the consensus that The Adhesive Duck Deficiency is the best and definitely the most rewatchable episode of TBBT?
Everything in this episode is hilarious. Sheldon and Penny are comedy gold from start to finish. This is where the famous "Is that my arm?" came from. Then Sheldon filling out the hospital form, and singing Soft Kitty to Penny. I love everything about it!
The guys' storyline is just as hilarious. Raj with his American accent saying, "The stars are pretty, aren't they?". Them missing the meteor, then Raj scrunching his nose to slow the Earth's rotation never fails to make me laugh.
It's just so funny. Every joke lands, and there isn't a single scene I'd skip. I could watch it over and over and it never gets old.
Any other episode you love rewatching?
I know sitcoms usually bring in guest stars, but bias aside, I genuinely think TBBT set the bar for guest appearances.
I mean, they had Stephen Hawking as a recurring guest. Not just a one-off cameo, but multiple appearances. Then you add Neil deGrasse Tyson, actual Nobel laureates, and even real astronauts into the mix.
And that’s just scratching the surface. The show pulled in an incredible number of high-profile names across science, film, and pop culture.
For those who watch a lot of sitcoms, are there any sitcoms that can match that level of star power, let alone top it?
I remember laughing at almost every joke they made, but there’s one Sheldon line that’s so simple but it somehow gets me every single time.
He was sick and had taken cold medicine, then woke up and asked what time it was. Penny told him, “9 o’clock,” and he just goes, “9 o’clock? What happened to 8 and 7 and all the other o’clocks?”
I can’t even explain why it’s so funny. It’s so basic and almost childish, but it lands perfectly every time and always makes me laugh out loud.
What about you?
I’ve seen a lot of people say they stopped watching because Amy was difficult to watch and honestly, I get it.
In her first few seasons, she can be really hard to sit through. At times, it feels like she’s just written as a female version of Sheldon, and some of her early comments (especially toward Penny) come off as uncomfortable rather than funny.
But if you can stick with it, she genuinely improves. Amy doesn’t stay that same character forever. As the series goes on, she becomes more layered, more natural, and a lot more likable. Her friendship with Penny, in particular, really helps humanize her and brings out a different side you don’t see at the beginning.
By the later seasons, she actually became one of my favorite characters.
So if Amy is the reason you’re thinking of dropping the show, give it a bit more time. It pays off.
I’m not originally from Taguig and I only recently transferred my voter registration here, so I have a genuine question: can Abby Binay run for mayor in the next election? And if she can, do you think she's winnable and a better choice than a Cayetano?
Additional question, if not her, who do you think is strong enough to take over?
*I'm not a Binay supporter, this actual just a thought in my head since I'm thinking who can possibly replace the Cayetanos.
