How defined/etc can (your) curly hair get without product (or a defining brush?)?
I saw an r/vent post about people looking for products to fix their problems instead of solving them themselves and while I mostly agree with the premise, they used curly hair as an example and that was where they lost me.
>I use a wide-toothed comb and comb my hair out in the shower, and then use a fine-bristled brush to get every single strand of hair untangled. Then I dry my hair with a T-shirt as towels are too rough for drying curly hair.
This was, word for word, the routine they suggested. This was one I tried before and couldn’t get to work without product. Even curl cream with no gel didn’t work for me, as my curls couldn’t last until next wash day.
Is it wrong for OP’s friend to ask for good curly hair products vs OP’s no-product routine? Or is OP right that curly hair products are ‘lazy’ and you can get well defined curls without them? I’ve always heard some kind of product is necessary so am pretty sure product isn’t just for ‘lazy’ people, but I thought it’d be an interesting discussion to have here.
PS: OP never mentioned any of the standard products (gel, cream, etc). Just a defining brush they thought was unnecessary. Which I felt weirder. Not sure if OP neglected to mention those products or if OP doesn’t use them at all.
So two questions:
- Assuming OP includes them as products, do you consider the products that go into your hair ‘lazy’? IE gel, cream, etc. (I’m assuming shampoo and conditioner is implied regardless of what curly products you use)
- If products OP are referring to are only defining brushes, do you consider those ‘lazy’?
