This curly cut was VERY overdue

It had been literally over a year because it’s so expensive to get a haircut these days 😅 worth every penny!!!

Btw, I’m thinking about getting highlights/sprucing things up with color for my album release. If anyone has any experience getting their curls colored please share!

Why won't my 2B/2C hair clump together? Constant frizz and separated curls/waves

I’m honestly so tired of trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong with my hair. I have very long, almost waist-length hair, and I think my hair type is around 2B/2C. My biggest problem is that my curls/waves don't really clump together. Instead, individual strands or small sections stay separated, so my hair looks fluffy and frizzy rather than defined and shiny. My hair is usually especially frizzy on wash day, but it looks a little better on the second day.

My current routine:

  • I shampoo twice when I wash my hair, usually every 2 days.
  • After washing, I apply Cantu Curl Activator Cream to soaking/wet hair.
  • I don't brush or comb my hair while it's wet because whenever I do, my curls seem to fall apart and become even less defined.
  • I only brush my hair before washing, when it's dry.
  • Once my hair is completely dry, I use around 2–3 drops of Bioblas Argan Hair Oil through the lengths/ends.

I use a pretty small amount of Cantu — roughly a pea-sized amount on each side of my hair. What I really want is soft, shiny, well-defined curls/waves that actually clump together, instead of separated, frizzy pieces. So what am I doing wrong? Could the Cantu Curl Activator be too heavy for my hair? Am I using too little/too much? Should I be using a gel or mousse instead? I've tried gel and mousse in the past, but they just made my hair feel damaged and stiff, and my curls felt completely frozen. And should I actually be brushing/combing my hair while wet even though it seems to destroy my curl pattern? I would really appreciate advice from people with similar long 2B/2C hair because I feel like I've been fighting with my hair forever.

The difference styling can make in 5 days

Unfortunate to say, but I lacked self care for most of the last year after having my baby, and probably also due to anemia. With that being said, I’ve had no set routine, and kept my hair up in a bun for most of the time, so here’s to hair training with product for the last week! And fingers crossed my curls will come back lol.

Routine:
L’Oréal elvive Hyaluron shampoo
No conditioner (I can’t get volume with any)
Ouidad climate control gel
Rusk thickr mousse

less is more

my hair has never took much to look like this, i never diffuse or blow dry my hair unless it’s an emergency. and i never use any more than 2-3 products on my hair! sometimes your natural curls just need simplicity. when i do use my curl products its usually just bc i want them a little bit more bouncy lol. anywho i hope this helps someone:) i do do hair for a living but the one thing i’ve learned about hair is 9/10 less is MORE!!

Should I go short???

TL;DR of this post: I have shoulder-length, probably 3a ish curly hair and I'm considering going for a short. I'm aiming for a more androgynous/masculine look. Would you recommend a pixie, bixie, or something else based on my hair? any advice would be appreciated

read on for a vent on why im considering it lol

I've been thinking about cutting my hair short and I'm getting increasingly nervous/excited about it lol. My hair is currently around shoulder length and naturally curly, probably around 2C/3A. I used to have waist-length hair, which everyone around me absolutely loved, but honestly I hated how much it became part of how people defined me. About a year ago I got fed up and chopped it to chin length. It's grown back to my shoulders since then.

A LOT has changed in my life over the past year, and I feel like I've changed a lot as a person too.

I'm thinking somewhere between a curly bixie or a proper pixie, possibly with shorter sides and more length/volume on top. I don't know yet how far I want to go helpppp.

Part of me really wants to do it because I want to be brave and try something completely different. Another part of me is just shit scared.

But I do want to have something physical that reminds me how much I've changed over the past year. hair means a lot to me and my identity, so i think it is a good step, but i do need help.

Also fair warning, my hair is honestly pretty fried right now. im sorryyy

I've neglected it quite a bit during a really rough period, and it's also had its fair share of chlorine damage, so I'm wondering if cutting it short might actually be a good opportunity to basically start fresh. I have some pictures of my hair, although most of them are unfortunately of the damaged state 💀 I've also included a picture of what my hair looks like wet, since that probably gives a better idea of the actual curl pattern.

I'm flying home on August 29th and I'm thinking of getting it cut on August 30th, so I have about 10 days to decide.

So, purely based on the hair: what would you recommend? And ANY advice for getting a short cut with my hair would be VERY appreciated.

Thank you for reading the whole thing if you did <33333 much appreciated

Please ignore the state of my hair as of now 😭😭😭

this is my wet hair lol

its pretty unhealthy as well 😭😭

Never had a hair cut - where do I start?

Hey guys!

I (21F) have never trimmed, cut, or coloured my hair. Basically, I have virgin hair and never really cared about it. I have been seeing the Curly Hair Method for a few years now but the amount of information and products out there is very overwhelming.

For context, I grew up in a culture that looks down in curly hair as it looks “messy” and “unattractive”. Combine that with religion that doesn’t let you cut your hair.

I have moved past that now and I’m ready to have it atleast trimmed and have a better understanding of my hair type.

I have a few questions in regards to products, hair maintenance etc.

  1. What would you consider my hair type? I tried the hair porosity test and some strands are low, some strands are high.

  2. How do I know which products are MOST likely to be good for my hair? I know that I should try some products out but they aren’t cheap and I don’t want to waste product if they end up not working. Preferably, products that are on Australian market shelves.

  3. What is the recommended hair washing routine? I am Asian and have heard that we need to wash our hair frequently. I find this true just because my scalp gets oily the next day. Is that a sign that I’m washing too often and stripping my hair or is that just genetics?

Thank you!!

Hair cut is making me miserable

I have curly hair that when straightened when down to around my mid back

Ive never had any chemical treatment or major heat damage but I am in med school and the lack of time to take care of my hair starting making it unhealthy (constant tension , brittle hair , major split ends)

Maintenance was also a big hassle and I Live in a very hot climate , I’m also a hijabi so the heat with my hair and scarf was too much , decided to get a chin length bob.

first two days were okay I wasn’t feeling much regret at all but every since then I can not stop looking at photos of my hair and crying and it feels so stupid. I’ve never even been that attached to my hair but now I feel nothing but regret. I hate looking in the mirror. I know it’s just hair and it’ll grow back but does anyone have any advice on how to cope until it gets to a longer length ?

Any advice?

I’m looking for help tweaking my routine. It seems like no matter what I do, my hair always
- doesn’t curl on the top/back of my head
- looks dry even though it feel hydrated
- has different curl patterns even within the same strand
- can’t be refreshed without making everything stringy as hell

I’m just at my wits end. My hair has looked like this basically since I started using curly products and there’s nothing that seems to make it better. Adding protein makes it stringy. Adding hydration makes it fluffy and stringy. Less product means it’s frizzy and doesn’t maintain shape throughout the day/overnight. More product makes it greasy and still doesn’t hold overnight. Yes I use a silk pillowcase. No I don’t sleep in a bonnet because all that does is squish my hair onto my head like a helmet and then I have to do even more of an extensive refresh.

Someone please help!!!

My current routine is this:
Shampoo once a week with V&Co peptide shampoo
Conditioner = garnier hair food banana
Let soak for ~5 min then fully rinse out
Flip upside down
Rake through and scrunch shea moisture coconut and hibiscus hair smoothie
Rake through and scrunch innersense I create hold gel
Historically I would brush style with denman brush but recently the clumps I’ve been getting just from scrunching have been more consistent so I just leave it at that and flip back up, micro plop with a tshirt a few times and then air dry

For a refresh, honestly idek. I usually just give up once the curls stop holding and put it up for the rest of the week. Sometimes that’s after 4 days, sometimes it’s after 1

Also I should note my hair is pretty fine and is easily weighed down by heavy products

Looking for advise !

New poster here. Looking for advice with my hair. Attached is how my hair dries naturally. Is this the type of hair to do a “curly girl” routine or is my hair just kind of wavy and frizzy? I am also trying to not damage my hair with heat . Thanks in advance 😊

I used to get perms

In the 70s my grandmother gave me perms! I don’t know how I didn’t know I already had curly hair. I still struggle with it - it takes longer than I would like to get it to where I like it! I have never found the holy grail of any product. I just used some cheap gel my husband brought on vacation and it looks as good as the $40 gel I buy. I struggle with feeling curly hair is not “professional” I want longer hair but then the curl is not as good. I am jealous of everyone with silky perfect coils. Anyway you all know the struggle!

If I’m supposed to post products, then I used the conditioner I found at the Vrbo and my husband‘s gel which is Woody’s for men mega firm gel

Hair Care Routine Advice

This is how my hair looks like dry day 1 after I showered in the morning, but it tends to straighten up the next day. I wash my hair three times a week but I can’t tell if my routine is working or if it’s not working the best.

I typically shampoo and condition in the shower, and brush my hair while the conditioner is in. That’s the only time I brush it. Then when I get out I typically wet it again and then apply leave in conditioner, some Moroccan oil, curl cream, and moose. Sometimes I blow dry it but sometimes I don’t. I just can’t tell if I’m doing it currently or there’s a better way because I noticed my waves don’t stay once it’s the next day. So I’d like some advice on that and what type of hair I have.

u/AmphibianCute14 — 4 days ago

what is your refresh routine when it gets frizzy?

I just want some things to experiment with, as not everything or every product works for my hair. Coconut oil is too heavy for my fine hair. I think I need a good spray/mist to rehydrate, but what do you rehydrate with between washes (especially after a fresh wash) when it wants to frizz out?

Help me with hair routine?

Hi Reddit, this is what my hair looks like after a shower, shampoo (Loreal elvive) and conditioner (the mask that comes with loreal hair dye), 80% air dried, no product. I know I have wavy hair, but can someone identify my hair type and help me build a proper routine which highlights my natural hair texture? Because for the last 20 years I’ve been straightening and heat styling the heck out of it lol

Wanting Wavy Hair Help-turn to curly?

Hello all! I am wanting to make my more wavy hair curly. You can see the front of my face is definitely more loose wave and the back (especially under) is tighter.

My routine: This was done by using whatever the people’s dogs I am watching had in their shower. Some color shampoo from Pantene and I also used a Dove intensive mask as conditioner. I also used a bit of pureology 21 essential benefits leave in spray on wet hair and I let air dry (also slept in wet, whoops)

I usually won’t blow dry unless I plan on styling it with hot tools. I do have a good amount of hair. Also thought it might be worth mentioning I live in a humid area in the mid west.
