What if the Roman’s held onto anotolia After manzikert ?

(Pay no attention to the other parts of the map only anotolia )

Sooo imagine this after manzikert romanos wins the civil war and and keeps going on campgain he can’t do much against the Turkish might but he can slow it down

The Roman’s lose all the border territory protecting them in the east and the Turks raid anotolia but with. Strong imperial figure like romanos they hold the land eventually Alexios komenios rises up around the time he did in our own timeline but has most of anotolia to work with like the in the second image

And if anything it’s almost like a return to the old day but instead of teh caliphates raids with Arabs it’s Turkish nomads what do u think happens next ?

What if the crusades techinally achieved their goal by restoring Roman suzerainty to anotolia ?

Image 1 shows all the groups that will be vazalized by Rome image 2 shows all the territory that the Roman’s will control by 1105 if not then by 1118 Alexios^s death

Sooo how do we get their

In 1096 the people crusade was a complete joke but not here

They take over nicea like that and keep on going fighting Turkish bands across anotolia slowly and poorly but trying to make their way

Then in 1097 with the groundwork layed by the peoples crusade this group builds apon that foundation helping restore control to Trebizond

And with groups coming each year they then restore control to the south and with one final blow to the Turks in 1101 where they don’t attack new Rome but instead the real enemy the Turks the Roman’s control the south and do a raid down in the the Turkish beyliks south of the danishmends And establish vassalizge over all Turkic states in anotolia which means Dominion over manzikert and everywhere west of it on the plateu

What do u think happens next?

All the lands that the empire occupy changes back ti the way it was in 460 any nations fully inside this empire vanish alongside any land that other contries own inside of the newly reformed Roman Empire

How would the Roman’s fair alongside their vassals ?

What if Manuel’s plans worked

Manuel komnenos had a variety of plans in Italy the Balkans in Egypt and what if all of them worked except myropkeplion cause I asked about that a while ago

Some of his plans where contradictory soooo here’s how I’m gonna resolve this

Sooo Manuel. Vassalized the sultanate of rum

Then after gaining peace with Turks he goes and gets a foothold in Italy then th pope asks for help in which he defends the pope from the holy Roman emperor after doing that the pope is obliged to call Manuel the Roman emperor atleast of the east if not sole emperator then after a while a marriage alliance between Manuel’s daughters and the hre emperator forces the pope to mantain the idea that Manuel is emperor of the east and the holy Roman emperor is the legitimate western emperor

After that he uses his alliance with the Germans to beat the Hungarians into submission a light vassalage with the main goal being to maintain peace Manuel seizes some territories from them from north of the Danube and are so thoroughly beaten the hugarians will wait a generation after Manuel’s death to attack the Roman’s so 25 years or untill 1205

Then he works with crusader states as emperor of the east to bring Egypt back into the fold of Christendom He succeededs leaving eygpt to th king of jersulum

In 1176 he fails at his qoute crusade against the Turks
But succeeded everywhere else what would happen next in your opinion ?

What if myrokepihlon was successful ?

In 1176 Manuel goes to conquer iconium fights the sultan of rum and succeeeds and goes on to hold iconium then after that summer he tells some of his soldiers to hold the city but the rest of them go back to rhomania
Then in the spring of 1177 he heads back to iconium holding it till fall of 1177 he then heads back to rhomania rinse and repeat till 1181 where Manuel is dead what happens next in ur opinion ?

What if the 4th crusade failed

Sooo everyone imagines senarios with no crusade or with it going to Egypt but what if it actually failed?

The people of new Rome more united in our own timeline did daring charges at the crusadors and when the sea walls were breached they were repelled the crusadors out of money and options are forced to sack somewhere else or declare bankruptcy

The Roman’s aren’t doing great but hey atleast the capitol is safe what happens next ?

What if the Roman’s united after 1204

In 1206 imagine Epirus nicea and Trebizond work together to destroy th Latin empire except Constantinople becasuse they’d fight over it

If that happened by about 1212 what do yall think would happen next ?

What was the most important year in Byzantium ?

Here’s what I mean thiers a lot of turning points in history Like for example the assination of arch duke ferdnand or yarmouk but they wouldn’t be turning points without the build up of years before

So what was the closest thing to a turning point year or important year where you could almost remove the context of the years before and after and things still have drastically changed
Because of that one year alone ?

I’m curious of what year yall will think of for me it’s

Either 636 or 1204 but what do yall think?

What if Rome became united in 1261

When the Latin empire felll their were three Roman polities left the eastern Roman’s Epirus and Trebizond

So what if once Constantinople was recovered the leaders in Epirus and Trebizond willing submitted themselves in vassalige to Constantinople what would happen then would this yield any benefits

What if andronikios the 3 focused on the east instead of the west ?

In our timeline he focused on conquering thessaly and he succeeded but what if he took that military prowesss and used it to vassalize all the costal Bayliks so imagine by 1341 he vassalizes the ottomans the karasides all the way down to the menteshe

And as part of the agreement all the costline goes to the Roman’s and he does this without major losses in the west

Would this help massively as it weakens the ottomans or not ?

(Everything west of the purple line I drew on image two goes to Roman’s directly

What if byzantium peacefully split in 2

In our own timeline John kantekousnos was ousted from power and stated a civil war with the John v regency council

What if instead the regency council gave kantkosuenos everything west of thesoloniki and the role of co Augustus and they peacefully spilt the empire

What happens next does it do nothing as they go to civil war orrr does Byzantium survive or even thrive up untill the Black Death ?

u/reactor-Iron6422 — 3 months ago

In 811 it’s stated that nickophrosus got intel that their was a Bulgarian army in the mountains then proceeded to do nothing with that information

Then after the emperor decided to do nothing the guys who told him that decided to tell no one else about their findings unless the emperor himself found the bulgars then everyone was relaxed and got ambushed in the night

That story or version of history sounds so incredibly stupid. It seems like the kind of thing a historican with a chip on the shoulder would put in to maybe up play the Amorians or Macedonians

But i could be wrong so how do we know that’s how it went down

(If anything I’d say that this makes more sense th bulgars were undected and then everyone relaxed because the capitol was burned and they were victorious until a suprise ambush then the Byzantines lost )

How would you save Byzantium in 1351

In 1351 the Byzantines lost areas outside of the thesolonki except the city itself other than that the realm is at peace until late into 1352 When andronkios the fourth removes John kantekonsunos causing him to rebel and take back the throne

With all that in mind how would you save Byzantium in 1351 ?

So me and this girl Kat were aquatences for awhile last year and she recommended added me to this discord server that links to numerous emulators and piracy sites

We fell out I tried asking her how she’s and why she dropped the math class and she said none of your business un added me then I lost my discord account to hacking

But I’ve been seeing her at the college I go to so I was thinking even though it’ll be awkward to say hi

We used to know eachother and I was wondering if u could add me back on discord so u can add me to tht server again if u do it I’ll give you a buck and then un add you

Should I do it yes or no ?

(yes I already know it would be awakard and cringe)

In the 1350s the ottomans got a base in the galipoli what if thy failed to get that base in the galipoli ?

Notes the Byzantines would still be recovering from multiple civil wars

What do you think would happen next?
