{Saint by Eva Simmons} Serial Killer Romance Book Review

Saint by Eva Simmons is the perfect read for fans of The Ritual by Shantel Tessier. If you enjoy a dark romance serial killer, fraternity, masked MMC tropes then you simply MUST read this novel. When Violet and her icky boyfriend are travelling at crazy stupid speeds down an unknown road to a mysterious party, we the reader know that shit is going to go down. I was thinking it would be of the car crash variety, however I was mistaken when they start to approach a masked figure on the road and Liam (the BF) decides to slow down and give him a lift?! What the actual fuck?! Violet is freaking out and has every reason to be concerned about the chilling vibes this stranger gives off.

When Liam gets a flat tyre, him and the stranger go out to change it and it is here that some serious shit goes down and before Violet knows it, she is legging it through the forest and being chased down by a psychopath. Have your serial killer romance ears pricked up yet?! This novel is all about the fear play, primal play, allllll of the kinky play! It’s extremely spicy and was dubbed five out of five spice levels in my humble opinion, based on the type of spice and the sheer quantity. Seriously, I think you could flick to a random page and land on a spicy scene. Yay! Amongst the spice there is plenty of mystery surrounding the events that unfolded that first night in the forest, and we begin to realise that it may have been no coincidence at all that Liam picked up Saint on that dark, creepy road.

Now, Goodreads reviews tell me this novel was divisive. I thought it was great. The heat was cranked the hell up, Saint was a vicious character who despite his claims, definitely had a caring side (in a twisted AF way). I really enjoyed Violet’s inner monologue. I liked that she questioned how sick in the head he was and in turn, how sick she was. I liked that she didn’t simply excuse his actions but instead was critically thinking about the ‘why’ of it all. She completely acknowledged that she was sympathising with a killer, but at the same time the novel was fast paced enough that during this inner turmoil she still totally went with the crazy naughty things Saint would inflict. There were no moments where I was yelling at the pages saying “just fuck already!!!”. Simmons delivered when it came to the sexy time scenes, which is what you WANT in a dark, serial killer romance.

{Brutal Vows by J.T. Geissinger} Mafia Romance Book Review

Spider and his third leg positively burst forth from the book in J.T Geissinger’s Brutal Vows and I ain’t complainin’. This is the fourth book in the Queens and Monsters series and yes, of course I listened to the audiobook. Just as I did with the previous three novels. I simply cannot stop raving about this man’s voice. I think I’ve been hypnotised or something. Spider is our Irish loverboy we’ve been familiar with since the second book in the series. In the third book it became apparent that this side character was going to get his own moment in the spotlight and holy moly Geissinger delivered.

Brutal Vows kicks off with us meeting our FMC Reyna, a woman who has quickly become my all-time favourite FMC of the series. She’s a total baddie, queen, absolute legend who does not take shit from anyone. This admirable strength has come from her tenacity in overcoming a truly abusive past with her husband who she totally whacked but completely denies doing. Her nickname behind her back is the Black Widow, which is fitting considering she’s about to meet one surly Spider. When Reyna’s douche of a brother tells her he is essentially selling off his daughter to the Irish mob, Reyna barely has time to blink before Spider arrives to meet Liliana, his betrothed.

The instant hatred between these two? Superb. The way Spider wants to devour Reyna but then forces distance which both can’t seem to abide by? Chefs kiss. When Reyna starts to insert herself in this arranged marriage she was unable to prevent (like I said, douche of a brother), she acts as chaperone so Liliana isn’t left alone with this random man she’s essentially been sold off to. Reyna is fierce and does not allow room for bullshit. Granted, she clearly judges Spider before getting to know him, but trauma will do that to a person. After a home invasion is thwarted by the combined efforts of Reyna and Spider, the two develop a begrudging respect for one another, and Reyna accepts that Spider is a relatively okay mobster (even if he is entering an arranged marriage with an 18 year old).

I will say no more lest I spoil!!! I bloody loved this. It was a slow build but my god when they finally collided? EPIC. Flawless spicy scenes. I think this is the first series I have finished within a couple of months. I typically float from series to series, to take a bit of a break from a genre. This series locked me in and I was unable to stop listening. If you are about to read these novels for the first time, then I cannot recommend the audiobook enough. It was a religious experience.

{Savage Hearts by J.T. Geissinger} Mafia Romance Book Review

Alrighty Ruthless Creatures got usurped by Savage Hearts which is book three in J.T. Geissinger’s Queens and Monsters series. The first book remained my fav until Savage Hearts bowled me over. I listened to the audiobook and pretty much combusted from Mal’s voice. God dang, I’ve never been a huge fan of audiobooks before but this series has truly converted me. Savage Hearts features our FMC Riley who is a bit of a shut-in and sister to our girl Sloane from Carnal Urges. Riley is invited to go visit Sloane and her Irish mob boss boyfriend Declan and it is here in Bermuda that Riley meets Mal, the assassin of the Bratva, out to kill Declan for murdering his brother. Mal mistakenly thinks Riley is being held somewhat against her will, sex working for the Irish mob, and attempts to save her. This white knight douchery was the only part of the novel I found frustrating, but I persevered and kept listening. I’m glad I did, because when he finds out she’s actually going to be Declan’s sister in law, he changes tactics and winds up tormenting her instead! My kind of novel.

Mal is the Russian boogeyman of this series, someone that nobody has ever seen and only ever heard about. If you ever meet Mal, you’re unlikely to remember him. His obsession and nefarious interest in Riley had me completely hooked, the scenes where he broke into her room at night were obvious favourites for me. My absolute favourite moment was when Mal broke into the safe house. Holy heck. The slow burn elements to this were just divine. I also was completely invested in his total bad arse nature that didn’t necessarily just disappear when he met Riley. He fully planned to assassinate her because of her association to Declan, so it took a bit more time for Mal to come around to admitting feelings for Riley. So this novel might be similar to Ruthless Creatures, but Mal is decidedly more villainey than Kage. It is definitely the reason for this being my absolute favourite.

Time to go listen to Spider’s story. Then I’ll weep over the series ending.

{Ruthless Creatures by J.T. Geissinger} Book Review

Ommmmg this mafia romance has reminded me why I need to read/listen to more mafia romances. The angst, the soap opera-esque drama, the ridiculously named characters. Gah, it has it all. I listened to this on audible and it was possibly the hottest shit I've ever listened to. The voice actor for Kage? Fuck moiiiii. Side note I was unwell whilst on a long drive to work and listening to this at 7am truly gave me life.

Ruthless Creatures features our FMC Nat who is grieving the disappearance of her fiance, five years on. She and her bestie Sloane are out on the town drinking and It's here that the ladies spot a very rugged, badarse looking out of towner who is kinda staring daggers at them. When the ladies hit on him because, why the fuck not, they are both shot down and that's really the end of that. They move on, have a great night (though Nat is feeling embarrassed by the whole ordeal, our girl Sloane could give two shits) and head on their merry way.

Nat winds up running into Mr tall dark and mysterious soon after, because low and behold he's purchased the house next to hers. He soon invites her out for dinner and then the majority of the rest of the novel features extremely spicy scenes which were genuinely some of the best smut scenes I've ever had the joy of listening to (the hairbrush spanking scene anyone???). Amongst this, we the reader know that Kage is a part of the Russian Mafia and it's no coincidence he has met Nat. Kage is supposed to take care of Nat in a very sleepin with the fishies kinda way, but he becomes obsessed with her and decides to betray his boss. So while we get to read some good juicy spicy scenes, there is an impending sense of doom, because we know Kage has to come clean at some time.

Ever since I read Pen Pal I knew I'd be a fan of this author. Ruthless Creatures was so fun, so spicy and honestly has reminded me why mafia romances are so fucking good. I finished listening to book one and instantly went to book two. I cannot recommend this audiobook enough. It was SO GOOD. The voice actor for Kage honestly sounds like he has gravel in this throat and words are just trying to emerge around it. It was so rumbly my speakers of my 1999 Nissan Pathfinder almost broke, although to be fair, that’s not a hard feat.

Please give me your favourite mafia romance recs. I need more!!!

{When She Needs Them Most by Jillian West} Omegaverse Book Review

Cosy omegaverse reads are refreshing when I’m feeling burnt out by angsty romance novels. Jillian West is pretty well known to deliver on this trope, and I personally loved the pregnant FMC element which I know is not for everyone. Consider this your warning to step away from the review!! Do not add to your TBR if pregnancy tropes aren’t your thing! Chelsea our FMC is nine months preggas and about ready to burst. The father of her child has tragically passed away and she is feeling all kinds of alone when she moves to a new town to escape a potentially dangerous situation with her baby’s uncle. Lucky for us she moves next door to three unbonded alphas who are more than willing to help move her furniture into her new place. The sparks instantly fly (as one would expect in an omegaverse) and these pushy alphas refuse to let her live in any kind of discomfort. The pushy alpha trope always makes me giddy.

Kase, Lincoln and Arden are all employees of a security company which is really a front for hired hitmen. Kase likes a bit of chaos and plots burning down Chelsea’s house so she has to move in with them, Lincoln likes sharp objects, and Arden is all about being in control. It’s a delectable combination. They somewhat impose themselves in Chelsea’s life but it’s welcomed because our girl is getting whacky pregnancy symptoms which scream ‘knot me!!!’, so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on the fact that there really isn’t a ‘heat’ scene (although West does provide a quick glimpse of one in the epilogue). It was a fun, cosy, spicy read that features alphas bending over backwards to provide for an omega they want to keep as their own, along with her baby Luna who they are so excited to meet. It was endearing and raunchy all at once.

This review is a short one, because honestly there isn’t much else to say. You know what you’re getting with a novel like this and that is fine by me.

{Out of this World by Ari Wright] Alien Omegaverse Book Review

So happy with this one. Two peened aliens, knots, abducted omega who doesn’t know she is an omega. What more could I ask for!! Out of this World is a humour filled read about a woman who goes out on the town with her girlfriends, all of which are sporting a t-shirt that says ‘Abducted Me Daddy’. Low and behold, Sofi gets abducted. She was clearly seeking help, or so say the aliens who ‘rescued’ her. Once Sofi is in her holding cage with all of the other ‘rescued’ omegas, she is purchased(?), gifted(?), idk, she is ‘rescued’ once more by Rask, a tall AF, horned, winged and totally pink looking demon guy who sniffs her out as a good candidate to be the Omega for the Alpha king, Zolkan.

When Sofi touches down on a planet she must now call ‘home’, she is distressed and slightly losing her shit which is fair enough. At the same time she starts to experience her first heat surges, which triggers Zolkan MAJORLY and he has to physically restrain himself from going to her. He doesn’t want to shackle her, so in a noble effort he offers up Cylus the resident doc to help her out. Cylus refuses, because he’s a stick in the mud, so Rask shows up for the task instead. Thus our clear trio in the ‘why choose’ is born.

The novel is all about Sofi coming to terms with never being able to return home, accepting she is an omega, and connecting with three unlikely alphas. It’s deliciously spicy with double peened dudes with knots and stupid amounts of fluid and all that super kinky shit we want to read in an omegaverse. Rask is the total puppy dog pretty boy, Cylus is the alphahole who refuses to acknowledge his feelings and Zolkan is a self-sacrificing type who is very much the alpha in charge. Each alpha brings a little something different to the relationship and it’s a fun ride reading each interaction with Sofi. I’m all about an omegaverse that can make me laugh.

Looking forward to reading the second book when it comes out because I think the MMCs will be space vampires. Or at least I hope so.

{Pucking Feral by Lenore Rosewood} Omegaverse Book Review

I enjoyed this even more than Rosewood’s Ghost Alpha Unit series, because, hockey guys, hockey GUYS. Lenore has gifted us an alternate universe to her original series and at first it felt like I was cheating on my book boyfriends, the concept of diving into an alternate world with the same characters seemed ridiculously sacrilege. I’m glad I fobbed that notion out the window because Wraith gets to go first in this one babbbyyyy!!!

Pucking Feral is about our FMC Ivy who is on the run from her abusive ex. She is living in secret beneath the arena which is home to the Ghosts, the rival hockey team to her ex’s. Also down in the murky depths of the maintenance tunnel is our lad Wraith, who meets Ivy whilst she is down with a serious fever. Proper fever too, not an omega heat if your omegaverse ears just perked the fuck up. Wraith moves Ivy to the pack house and hides her in his attic to look after her, overcooked microwave meals and all. This guy could take a dump on the rink during a game and still somehow seem endearing.

Wraith’s character is so painfully tragic that I felt my heart bleed profusely for him any time he fixed his mask so as not to scare anyone from his scars. Ivy cares for him so deeply and when he lets his guard down and lets her in? Gah. Sobbed. These two are simply MADE for eachother. Which checks out considering they are scent matched mates. Thank you omegaverse trope for delivering all I ever hope for in these novels. Impending heat? Check. Scent matched mates? Check.

A delightful difference to this novel is that Valek is totally not a part of the pack and is transferring to the team. He has to live at the pack house so the team can play nice and bond, and he totally suspects something is up. Our other alphas Whiskey, Plague and Thane don’t know if he’ll be trouble though so they insist on pretending that the third floor is for storage only. They honestly do a shocking job of being remotely unsuspect. It’s a hoot to read.

I wish I could say I don’t know who could possibly be my favourite alpha but I’d be lying. It’s Wraith every day, all god damned day.

Lord have mercy on my soul, the dongers in this one positively leapt forth from the book and turkey slapped me. Layla Fae wasn’t playin’ around with these Agnidari boys!! If you are someone that gets irked by anatomically incorrect appendages then this book ain’t for you. If you are someone that rolls with the punches and doesn’t mind a little embellishment, wellllllllllll….

A Prize for the King features our FMC Caliane, princess to a kingdom which is currently under attack by Magnar the Tyrant. The Tyrant is king of the Agnidari and he’s out to find a bride to legitimise his place on the Table of Kings, to finally end the war against the humans. When Caliane is faced with no choice but to accept Magnar’s marriage proposal, she bears witness to some gruesome AF stuff which makes our girl feel utterly hopeless. Sooner than she can say “I do?”, she is off on her merry way, new husband in tow.

Now, Caliane is ya typical blushing virgin princess kind of lady, and she very rudely comes to realise that being with Magnar also means being with his three knights. These hunky warriors have taken a vow of celibacy and devote themselves to their king and eventually their queen. They dote so god damned hard. To say this is a spicy novel would be putting it lightly. When Caliane gets hitched to Magnar, they set off on a long journey back to his kingdom, and it’s positively brimming with all kinds of tension. Many stops at many castles and inns so we’ve got plenty of one bed moments where Caliane simply must be guarded at all times by one or two knights!!

Outside of all the hanky panky, Caliane has to prove herself as queen to the Agnidari and then eventually to the slimy human kings who we all immediately hate. There are plenty of politics and courtly moments where Magnar gets to bear witness to his absolute boss of a queen, and I was cheering her on the entire time. I think if you get around a why choose fantasy, but don’t want the commitment of an entire series, then this is a pretty perfect novel for you. I am a big fan of Layla Fae, her Jaga and the Devil series is my all time absolute fav. This was different to that series and I was pleasantly surprised. I read it within a week and marvelled the entire time at the size difference spicy scenes. It couldn’t possibly ever happen, but hey, this is all make belief. Just go with it.
