The Yuto Horigome x Nike Dunk Low SB 'Matcha' :: Unboxing and Lace swap

I’m gonna start with the part that’ll probably piss some people off: I don’t love this colorway.

And generally, when people tell me “you’ve gotta get them in hand,” I take that to mean the design or colorway isn’t completely selling the shoe on its own.

Well... you’ve gotta get these in hand.

Because holy shit, the materials and construction are good. This is sneaker-nerd porn. Thick leather, buttery suede around the ankle, really rich long-haired nubuck on the toe box and a ridiculous mix of textures throughout the upper. This might legitimately be one of the best-made SBs I’ve ever handled.

The side panels actually confused me at first. They felt unusually rough — almost like the fibers had been glued into place. Then I read about the Matcha inspiration and learned that bamboo fiber was mixed into the construction.

AHA! There it fucking is.

That’s the kind of storytelling I love. Don't just tell me a shoe is inspired by Japanese matcha culture — actually work that idea into the damn shoe.

There are also little green speckles throughout the overlays that play into the Matcha theme. I understand the idea. I just don't particularly like the execution because they make the shoe look dirty. If I have to explain “No, no, somebody didn't splash coffee on my shoes, those spots are supposed to be there...” we've got a problem. 😂

And ultimately I keep coming back to the colorway.

They're asparagus.

Very, very premium asparagus.

The pink laces are an absolute must for me. They break up all that green and finally give the shoe some personality and a little head-turning ability. With the stock green laces these were way too monotone for me. Pink completely changes them.

What inspired this review was my Hayley Wilson post a few weeks ago. I called the Hayleys the best SB of the last two years, and while some people agreed, a pretty significant portion of the comments basically said:

“YUTOS, BRAH.”

So... I listened.

Would I take these over the Hayleys?

No.

But the gap is WAY smaller than I expected.

The Hayleys still win for me on colorway, creativity and just being more fun to wear. But materials and craftsmanship? These absolutely murder them — and the Hayleys aren't exactly cheaply made shoes.

So I'll give you guys this one. The Yuto Matchas absolutely belong in the conversation for one of the best SBs of the last couple years, even if they're not personally my #1.

In fact, you bastards got me so good that after handling these tonight, I ordered the original Yutos.

I love this sub.

Keep the recommendations coming.

Jordan 7 "Tennis Day", Back to The Future? What is this garbage Nike?!

I feel like I should be the easiest person on earth for Nike to sell this US Open tennis collection to.

I’m a huge tennis fan. I play regularly. I grew up loving Agassi. I collect Jordans. I love weird crossovers and sneakers with an actual story behind them.

Nike basically assembled my sneaker Bat-Signal.

And somehow…I don’t want any of these fucking shoes. 😂

The Agassi-inspired Jordan 7 should have been awesome. Instead, the massive sections of cheap-looking mesh make them look like kids’ Jordans. Give me premium leather, suede, something worthy of the crossover. Why make an Agassi-inspired Jordan that looks cheaper than an actual Air Tech Challenge II?

Then there’s the “Back to the Future” ATC II. Now you have the actual Agassi silhouette and one of the coolest themes imaginable…and that’s it? Grey leather, a white swoosh and some turquoise splatter? They're not terrible. They're just unbelievably underwhelming considering what Nike had to work with.

And then somehow the Vapor 12 is the coolest shoe of the bunch. The grid upper, icy blue, speckling and little details actually make it look futuristic and interesting.

You know…the performance shoe I’d buy specifically to beat the absolute shit out of playing tennis.

How did THAT shoe get the most interesting execution?

Nike had Agassi nostalgia, Jordan, the ATC II, Back to the Future and the US Open all sitting on the table.

I should be trying to convince myself I don't need three pairs.

Instead I'm trying to convince myself I need one.

You blew it, Nike. 🎾

Air Jordan 5 Fire Red “Silver Tongue” (2020) :: Unboxing + Lace Swap

Okay, I get it. I’m a fucking purist.

These are gorgeous.

I don't remember what the exact silhouette looked like when Jordan wore the 5. I was alive, sure, but I was also in first grade. I wasn't sitting there studying MJ's toe box geometry between episodes of Ninja Turtles.

But I do know what looks good.

And sitting these next to the 2026 White Metallic makes it obvious to me: I prefer the 2020 silhouette. The longer, more gradual slope into the toe and fuller collar just make the shoe look better proportioned. The 2026 is probably the better built shoe — nicer leather, better materials and a little more refinement — but purely on shape? Give me 2020.

Speaking of the leather, it's actually pretty damn good. Not A Ma Maniére/collab-level stuff, but absolutely on par with or better than most Jordans I review. The polyurethane coating isn't slathered on so thick that the leather looks like rubber, and press into it and you can actually see the grain underneath.

And I love this colorway. Much more than the black tongue pair. White, black, Fire Red and that silver tongue — just clean and crispy as hell. I think enjoying the True Blues so much recently is actually what pushed me toward finally grabbing these.

The unboxing is classic Jordan. Jumpman, elephant print, black box. Nothing elaborate, but it immediately feels right.

Then you open it and...

What the fuck is this black plastic garbage bag?

Seriously, what were we going for here? Darth Vader gift-wrap? 😂 That shit has got to go.

Quality wasn't perfect either. I've got some glue staining and a weird little red paint drip around the shark teeth. Oh Nike. These are the shoes that helped build your fucking house. If we can put a man on the moon, Nike, you can make a Jordan without glue stains.

One thing I don't want pristine forever is the netting. It's already started yellowing slightly after six years in the box and I think it's going to look fantastic with more age. That's part of the charm of a 5 to me. Yellowed netting and soles, some creasing in the leather, a little wear — these actually get better looking when they stop looking brand new.

So I'm going to put some miles on them.

And naturally I couldn't leave the laces alone. Swapped the cheap polyester stock laces for wider flat cotton A Ma Maniére laces and immediately loved them more.

I might agree with the purists about the 2020 shape...

but those polyester laces aren't getting through the front door.

Not in this house, Dikembe. ☝️😂

Really fucking happy to add these. I spent a while after opening the box just looking at them, which is usually a pretty good indication that I bought the right shoe.

Victor Solomon x Nike Air Max 90 ASW Black :: Unboxing and laceswap

"Apparently the premium sneaker experience now includes arts and crafts."

Right out of the box, these have wow factor.

Premium slide-out box, individual embroidered dust bags, paisley wax paper with each shoe individually wrapped — before you even get to the sneakers, you know you're opening something special.

Then I opened them.

Glue stains. Random white paint specks. On an all-black shoe.

Goddammit Nike. 😂 Even on something this limited and elaborate, quality issue still manages to rear its ugly fucking head.

So I spent 20 minutes with a Magic Eraser, Reshoevn8r and some mink oil cleaning my brand-new shoes.

TADA! ✨ Apparently Nike included an arts-and-crafts project with the unboxing.

Thankfully, once I cleaned them up, I remembered why I wanted these. The leather is ridiculously soft — sneeze too hard and you're going to crease it soft — with detailed embroidery, Swarovski crystal Swooshes and gold hardware throughout.

The gold chain laces are completely fucking ridiculous. Amazing for display; absolutely not happening on my feet. 😂 The included wide flat black laces with gold aglets are PERFECT and let the crystals and hardware do the talking instead of turning my feet into Mr. T.

Compared to the white "Diamond District" pair, I still prefer the whites. Their leather feels a little more substantial and the embroidery absolutely pops against the white upper. There's also more storytelling there, including the LA map insoles.

The black pair is more understated. Some of that detailing disappears into the monochromatic upper, but they're also considerably easier to wear.

And together? Yeah, I'm really glad I completed the set.

Premium materials, weird details, edgy without being unwearable, and something I can actually wear to the office or out at night. These check basically every box for me.

The quality issues on a shoe like this is fucking ridiculous.

But after doing Nike's job for them?

Goddamn, these are gorgeous.

Jordan 1 Retro Low OG Rabbit Floral Swoosh :: Unboxing

"Disappointing materials, horrible quality on an otherwise clean looking shoe..."

Splatters of white paint are strewn about on the outsole portions connecting with the upper. Long threads of stitching hang off and out of the heel tab. Globs of glue spill out from areas of the upper which, acts a filler for the gaps between miscut sections

... and I didn't even get to the really disappointing part about these shoes yet.

Introducing the latest sneakers that some paid youtube reviewers have dubbed "premium" and a "sleeper". I didn't see a single person post about these in a reddit sneaker sub, so I should have been immediately suspicious. At a retail price of $165 this spring, they were on the higher end of the cost spectrum for Jordan 1 lows. The shoes are sitting everywhere and currently the lowest ask is at $72 below retail on stockx for a size 12.

Why? It's not the embroidered rabbit swoosh or the sail outsoles.

These shoes are garbage, straight up trash! This has got be some of these worst materials I have ever seen on a Jordan. The leather is obviously synthetic in most sections of the upper, especially the tongue. Some youtube reviewers have said how "buttery" the materials on the upper are, it has all the buttery feeling of a rubber doorstop. The places on the shoe that are real, like the toe box area are the thinnest fucking cuts of scrap pieces glued together, that I have ever seen.

The bonded leather thing that Jordan brand has been doing in the toe box areas of these recent J1 low releases is not good. The stuff just wears terribly. I was REALLLY disappointed to see that in the latest Travis 1 release and I have them side by side, so you can see what the ghost of Christmas future is going to look like for these shoes.

The paid shills and influencers of sneakers will tell you anything to keep their little gravy train going.

Skip these shoes, if you're looking for a premium quality sleeper there's much better in this price range.

I'm returning mine tomorrow, god damn these were fucking bad.

Nike SB Dunk LowHayley Wilson :: Unboxing and Lace swap

"An SB so nice, I had to buy it twice..."

I seldom even wear sneakers more than twice before swapping them out for something else... let alone buy the same pair twice. I loved these so much that when I realized I had damaged the Nubuck beyond repair (water) it was time to throw them on eBay and try again.

Controversial hot take, but it's between these and the blue tiles as the best SBs to release in the last two years. The staff at Nike SB has been working on diversifying their portfolio and hitting some other famous silhouettes recently... Jordan 4s, Paul Rodriguez, and Air Force 1s but where's the love for the one that started it all, the Dunks?

These are a gorgeous colorway made with some premium materials and soooOOoo many little easter eggs buried inside. The best SBs have that special power of transporting me back to being a kid and admiring things for being cool and different. Unboxing these and seeing the UV protective bag, the art and the colors pop out in hand... it's awesome.

I had a few QC issues on these sneakers with some glue stains, and the lace keeper on the tongue oddly being slightly lower on the left shoe than on the right. I wish these came with a set of black or white laces as an alt but I can't complain about 3 sets of high quality laces in matching colors.

These were sitting under retail on lots of resell platforms when I bought them... a steal. I just need to hit them with the reshoev8r spray before heading out anywhere this time.

Jordan 3 Retro True Blue (2026) :: Unboxing and Lace swap

"Finally, an OG GR that doesn't disappoint..."

The leather, quality and composition of these is about the best you can expect from a mass production GR. I like the shape, I think it looks sleeker and less boxy than some previous 3 retros. The color is lighter in person than in the pictures, it reminds me more of the Military Blue shade which, released as a 4 a few years ago. I like the thinner/ tighter elephant print, it just looks better... I don't know why.

UNBOXING: Yes, we appear to be in the disappointing face box era. I'd rather the box for these Retros was either custom and nostalgic about the sneakers history or just the same box from the time of original release. The elephant print waxed paper was nice... no additional wrapping for each shoe.

LACES: No extra laces on these guys but that's seldom the case on 3s and OGs. I swapped the laces with some flat white lightly waxed cotton 55" holla hollas.

These are just a clean fucking shoe, great for summer, and easy to fit with about anything. But if you're sitting on the couch, pondering this purchase... you're looking at this review, and probably trying to discern the answer to one question...

Do I feel like this sneaker is worth $230 (+ tax, title and DMV)?

No, no I do not. I think it's a clean well made shoe but in about two months these will be selling at half the MSRP at most retailers. I do think they'll follow the sneaker value U curve, being heavily discounted, and then steadily going up in value over the next year. So I should clarify, at time of posting 2026-08-02... they are not worth retail pricing. These sneakers are far superior to the 2016 release, so they will eventually be worth more than $230 DS when stock dwindles.

Am I disappointed in this purchase?

I was not disappointed at all, I expected the worst and the bar was extremely low. These actually impressed me a bit and have somewhat restored my waining faith in any Jordan release that isn't something extremely rare and/ or produced with an established collaborator at the helm.

Honestly, I was really happy with the purchase. To be able to walk into a store and pick these up when I wanted them, it was refreshing. I didn't have to wait for the machinations of a resell platform, and the first person to open this box was me. I didn't have this colorway, or really very many white Jordan 3s, these sneakers will have a job for the next few months (atleast).

Jordan 39 x A Ma Maniére While You Were Sleeping :: Unboxing

What is this thing? A mix of odd styling, premium materials and a retro sneaker vibe... as Dewey Cox said "I think I kinda want it".

Elevated materials and tasteful design choices are the hallmark of any A Ma Maniere collaboration. The nubuck is a long haired, so much so that making a smiley face on the forefoot required a bit of effort to push them all out of the way. The semi-circles on the outsole are a reflective extremely soft material. Little easter eggs are everywhere, looking closely you can see the upper is patterned with tiny AMM logos, the aged translucent outsole reveals an AMM logo on one shoe and a Jumpman on the other.

Unboxing one of the WYWS releases is still such a fun experience with the dust cloth included which, I think is almost like a place setting the AMM team gives you to put down before the big sneaker feast.

The pattern itself on this shoe probably isn't for everyone with the bold organic almost camouflage designs interwoven, and a bow that stretches into the outsole. Those elements about the 39 remind me more of the inspirational, ground breaking and creative work Tinker did in the 80s, than the modern plastic spaceships that basketball shoes resemble these days. The shoes are as much a statement of art as they are performance footwear, the 39 team nailed it.

On a sadder note... my pair had several quality issues including damage to the forefoot on one shoe because packaging created indents to left on the forefoot, there's big chunks of glue on areas of the heal to cover up what looks like spots where materials didn't quite fit right ...and lastly, the que de gras there's some paint trapped under the heel on the outsole of the right shoe. I'll probably ask satan's workshop stockx for coupon as compensation to make up for these defects instead of returning.

I'd consider doing a sail, faded violet or cream colored lace swap, thoughts?

TLDR; Awesome release! Glad I was finally able to get my hands on these. Even though, quality issues rear their head once again from Nike... this is a Gorgeous colorway, with beautiful/ thoughtful designs and premium materials. One of my favorite adds to my collection in recent memory.

Jordan 8 Retro N7 Pendleton :: Unboxing and Laceswap

"Gorgeous sneakers that I'm not sure would have worked with other Jordan silhouette..."

Awesome materials, that's the first thing I noticed when I cracked the lid on these. The soft nubuck panels of grey and black with easy to brush nap. The Pendleton wool is soft and intricately woven. Even the chenille patch has little details like shadowing around the Jump man logo. The Nubuck itself easily passed my smiley face test.

The things I don't like about this shoe have to do with the Jordan 8 itself. I think the straps like most things Tinker did aren't as much function as aesthetic. As I did the lace swap the straps were a constant annoyance. Also I had to lace a bit higher than I would normally like to get the laces out above the straps. Maybe, I'll get used to these eventually?

... long time Jordan 8 listener, first time Jordan 8 caller. Why did the 8s not have an air bubble? The ribbing and waves on the heel would look alot better with a bubble, I know I'm over 3 decades late with this feedback. Also, while I'm trashing the 8... I hate the plastic-ish panels on the lateral sides which, have yellowed on this DS pair. From certain angles with the cross straps, all this composite material on the outsole and parts of the upper make these look more like a ski boot than a retro basketball shoe.

The fact that it does have the straps and the larger outsole however, I think really works with Pendleton. It makes the colors and designs more interesting as they're interwoven beneath the straps and balanced with the grey and black tones on the outsole. It really works on this sneaker... I can't see that being the case for a 3, 4, 5 11, etc. it would look off. Despite my misgivings about the 8... these had to be the Jordan for this design.

The unboxing was ok with the news clipping era style box, I like that box better than the face or elephant print. I think the standard Jumpman or flight box is probably my favorite but really for special editions like these, or a collab the shoes should get their own packaging with a unique story.

Three sets of laces are included with these shoes in a variety of colors. Curiously no black lace was included and also curiously all these laces are the shitty polyester stuff. I did swap in some 72" flat black waxed laces which, look great.

TLDR; We're in the heat of the summer but it's never too early to go shopping for some fall shoes. I'm glad I found these... the quality is top tier, the n7 story is unique and I love the colorway even if I don't particularly love everything about the Jordan 8 silhouette.

Undefeated x Nike Air Max 90 'White Solar Red' :: Unboxing and Lace swap

"B+ materials with D- build quality..."

These were a random ebay find for $87 after a coupon. I was scoping AirMax 90s for summer wear with shorts and a t-shirt on the 90 degree NC days. A DS pair of these for that low of a price, I felt like... "Oh, what the hell? Why the fuck not?"

I know nothing about this shoes release and don't really care. Undefeated hasn't really had any collabs of note outside of their famous 4s, I generally find their shit to be kinda tacky and uninspired. But I mean, how can you fuck up a pair of white and red Air Maxs?

Well... I will tell you it's possible. And I have so many questions... how was the quality on the cuts in the material, holes for the eyelets, stitching and painting on the outsoles approved by Nike? How did eBay auth these as not defective?? There's soOOoo many mistakes on these and no one noticed?

The upper where the sock liner meets the lacelets is cut at different lengths on both shoes, one of them really badly. The eyelets for the laces don't line up exactly on each side so, it kinda looks like you missed a hole lacing at some points. The painting of the 'solar red' around the air bubble runs all over the place. Leather cuts of the mud guard are crooked.

The fact that these were aged a bit didn't bother me, the folks on the r/SNKRS and r/airmax90 almost unanimously voted to keep the patina... and so I shall. (Thread 1 and Thread 2)

The leather quality on these shoes is good, it's actually VERY good. I think it's probably some of the best leather on AirMaxs I've seen, outside of my Victor Soloman's. The insole is thick and cushiony I think it's real polyurthane, unsure. It's very nice, though.

I ended up going with just some bright white laces, I didn't love the off white matching the aged lacelets. There were two sets of laces that came with this shoe one white and one matching solar red but both were synthetic polyester (no thanks).

TLDR; You can do worse for a pair of summer beaters... the quality issues definitely irk the shit out of me but the materials, colorway and the undefeated design choices make these a worthwile purchase at less than ~$100.

AIRMAX 1000.2 -PINK SPELL

"If this is the future of sneakers, I think I'll stay in the past..."

These are some really uncomfortable rubber shoes. They feel like on foot why they look like, some stiff fucking synthetic sleeves for your feet. I'm not sure if we're in the primitive age of 3d printing still or if, we'll always have the shitty print lines on 3D printed stuff.

The sneakers don't feel great in hand or on foot. I wouldn't classify myself as a "wide footer" but they definitely fit narrow and around the balls of my forefoot. I'd say they fit TTS otherwise but definitely rub the outerparts of my foot. There's no fabric or cushion inside this shoe, it's straight 3d printed stiff rubber shit... and it definitely feels that way.

From an appearance perspective when you remove all of the pretty marketing materials, the futuristic imagery and the hype... they look really plain and really cheaply made. The pink air unit is cool and I do like waves moving across the upper. But the outsole, insole, midsole and upper are the same 3D printed material... so there's no depth, or a transition, they just look like plastic blocks.

The process to manufacture the shoes is the impressive part, the fact that they can be created so quickly with such a low material cost is amazing. 3D printing brings new possibilities to many industries and aspects of life. Creating an entirely rubber shoe and selling it for $180 has been possible long before the advent of the 3d printer.

TLDR; These a gimmicky shoe capitalizing on the hype around 3d printing technologies. They are neither particularly interesting to wear or to look to at.

Jordan 6 Retro PRM Bin23 :: Unboxing

"That's no moon..."

These are absolutely fucking ridiculous! The build, the materials, the packaging the whole thing is just over the top...

This is the second bin 23 that I've unboxed and once again, these guys on the Jordan team really want you spending some time unpacking stuff. There's a sleeve for your actual box, and beneath that you'll find bags for your bags and packaging for your wrap. At some point during the unpackaging you'll get to some sneakers and some shoe trees but Jordan brand wants you to know "we didn't just throw these shoes in a box... ALRIGHT guys!".

I actually think the little card that came with these made a bit more sense than the one that came with the 3s... but still there's not much story telling. This card reads like "the fucking guy liked nice cars, cigars and wine...also, he was a competitive trash talking asshole; so eh, here's some shoes to honor that!". There's an image of one of Tinker's original sketches for the 6 thrown in there just because... I'll allow it.

I think the storytelling got left to the summer interns in the creative department but... enough about that, the shoes ARE AMAZING!

Yeah, way better in hand than in the pictures online. The leather, the stitching, and the nubuck is really thick and rubust... it gives them depth and a subtly. These are the type of sneakers that are loud in the way that doesn't require bright colors or gimmicks, they're just so nice that the materials demand "STOP... look at me!! I'm an Italian dress shoe disguised as a retro sneaker...."

No alternate laces with these, WHOMP WHOMP, I think a red lace to match the wax seal and the triangle hits on the eyelets would have been cool. But if I'm being honest, the only laces that would ever have been in these shoes would be black. The laces themselves are a very high quality flat waxed with some thick metal tips that have some weight to them (probably be a bitch to take these out anyways). I can already hear the clickity clackity they'll make when I'm walking around.

Other nice peripherals include the metallic color lace locks with the Jump man on them and the shoe trees. Those shoe trees smell of sweet sweet cedar... AHHH!

TLDR; If you're reading this... go look at the pictures. They're one of the nicest pairs of sneakers I've ever held in hand.
