hot take: most people’s zones are wrong because their ftp is from a test they haven’t repeated since

everyone treats the number from their one ramp test in march like it’s carved in stone. you’ve either improved since then, so your hard workouts are too easy, or you’ve detrained, so your “zone 2” is quietly zone 3 and you’re wondering why you’re always tired, a stale ftp is worse than no ftp because it comes with false confidence

When did you last test vs when did you last change your zones, be honest

how do you decide if todays a rest day

i either do nothing for 5 days or i do 6 in a row and fall apart. no in between.
yesterday i felt completely normal in the warmup and then was cooked 20 mins in and i couldnt tell you what i missed. resting hr looked the same as always.
is there something you actually go off or is everyone just guessing based on how much they hate the idea of clipping in

be honest how long since you did a ramp test

mines been since february. i keep telling myself ill do it sunday and then sunday comes and i find a group ride instead.
so my ftp is basically a historical document at this point and all my workouts are built off it. either theyre too easy or im lying to myself about being able to hold zone 4.
how often do you lot actually retest vs how often you know you should

how do you know if your actually getting fitter or just better at the game

been riding about 4 months, 4 rides a week. my output is up which is great but i have no idea if that means im fitter or if ive just learned how to pace the classes and where to sit on the resistance.
like my average went from 180 to 215 but a lot of that feels like knowing when the push happens rather than being stronger?
do you track anything outside the app or do you just trust the number
