Moral Cowardice

D. Todd Christofferson condemned gambling last weekend at general conference, denouncing it as immoral.

Fair enough.

Meanwhile, the current U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, is gladly wanting to celebrate violence by publicly executing someone in a few weeks.

The Pope has spoken out against it. Politicians have as well, even from the Republican side of the aisle.

And the Church? Instead of condemning the obvious immorality of violence (publicly showing an execution by firing squad), remains deafeningly silent. No statement or news release. Just crickets.

I think Church leaders act cowardly when addressing morals, especially when it comes to any overlap between morality and politics (in the United States at least).

Awkward

I'm 45m and have been married for 20 years. Our marriage in the past few years has been strained for various reasons such as work, different interests, how to raise the kids, finances, etc. No major fights or separations, but certainly strained.

Sexual intimacy is extremely infrequent. Perhaps once a month or even longer. But the sex is so infrequent and uncommon that it's almost awkward.

Has anyone else experienced this? Solutions? I know couples therapy would be ideal but my wife refuses to participate in it.

Financial Recklessness Infiltrating the Bedroom

I've been married for over 20 years, am active in the church, and hold a leadership calling. My marriage has been fairly rocky for the past few years, mainly about finances.

My wife refuses to budget. I'm not embellishing. Candidly, "refuses to budget" is probably too generous. Literally, she overdrafts our checking account at least once every month, and sometimes multiple times a month.

I think it's reckless and I become very angry every time it happens. It's been a heated issue for years. I've sought individual counseling about it. My wife refuses to participate. I've asked her if we can consult with a financial planner, and she refuses. It's a raw, festering subject that results in a fight, again and again and again.

I'm becoming nervous, as I watch the kids grow up and leave the house, that this problem will persist and get worse. I think in her mind, she can shop all day while I'm at the office, and overdrafts are insignificant.

I've considered separating our finances. I've considered divorce. The tension and frustration spills over into the bedroom. I wouldn't say that sex is non-existent. But it's rare.

I love her. But I despise the financial irresponsibly and the anger it creates.

I'd appreciate any insight or thoughts on how to handle this situation, both from a budget standpoint, and then also how to keep it from infiltrating the marriage bedroom.

Thanks in advance.
