Why join when you can associate instead?

I'm just kind of curious about what benefits a person gets from actually joining a gang versus just associating with it. The vast majority of celebrities that claim gang affiliation are more associates than they are full on gang members. So obviously it's not necessary in the industry.

It seems like if I associate with a gang I get a lot of the perks.

So what drives someone past associating into actually joining?

Popping a drug test

Quick question. What determines what happens to you when you pop on a drug test? I know a lot of people get kicked out for it, but I know for a fact that sometimes it happens and the Marine is kept in. I remember one time I overheard our CO talking to a Marine checking into our unit. The new join mentioned he had popped on a piss test and basically wanted to own it with the CO. So obviously they don't always kick you out.

Was this just because I served during wartime and they needed everyone they could get? Or is it truly just a case by case basis? I'm just confused at the range of possibilities, it doesn't seem like there's a standard punishment for it.

What if Frodo failed?

Let's pretend for whatever reason that Frodo fails to destroy the ring. The ring gets lost, but the free people of Middle Earth will be able to find it IF they win a total victory and decisively route the enemy.

Do you think this would be possible? Or were they so outnumbered that the ring was their only reasonable chance of success?

Would you play an LA MUD?

I'm working with my brother to create a MUD set in LA and featuring all the gangs (someday).

I'll probably keep making it just for fun, but would anyone be interested in playing or helping make this?

It would basically be a bunch of chat rooms but you can hunt and kill rival gang members. Would also have some PVE play too.

Questions about gang cards

Doing some research on gangs in LA. I'm curious how big of a role the gang card plays in a sets decisions. Examples of what I mean by cards:

-Neighborhood Crips

-Gangster Crips

-East Coast Crips

-Mafia Crips

-Hustler Crips

-Piru Bloods

-Brim Bloods

  1. Are these groupings a solid alliance, or just a loose association?

  2. How come a "Card Leader" level never developed? Sets have leaders, but cards don't seem to have a leader. Why not?

I'm just remembering when I got out of the Marines. I went to talk to my CO, and he had a short talk with me. He told me that I was a good Marine, that I had worked hard and deserved my most recent promotion, and he wished me the best of luck.

I just remember how much that meant to me, and how his approval meant so much to me and my ability to move on with my life.

Did everyone get this? I thought it was so classy and it really did help me move on with my life and feel like I had "done my part".

I was just reading another thread where a lot of Marines were talking about how they hadn't done enough (even combat and decorated Marines).

I just realized this short conversation with my CO probably helped me move on with my life.

So did others get this kind of talk when they were getting out? It should be standard procedure imho.

Edit: Responses are a bit depressing. It seems like this was a rare occurrence. I'm grateful I had it, and it really should be SOP to congratulate a Marine when he gets out.
