There has not been any email from HSBC yet, but the FAQ on Star Alliance says cards are closing November 18, 2026.

What is happening to the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card?

As per its communication to customers on 12 August 2026, HSBC will be closing its retail banking business in Australia. Consequently, the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card will be closed on 18 November 2026 and your agreement with HSBC will end. What happens to the Star Alliance Silver or Gold status earned through the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card?

Further updates to Star Alliance Silver and Gold status benefits will be provided by HSBC as soon as they are confirmed.

What will happen to my Star Alliance Silver or Gold Status?

There are no changes to your existing Star Alliance Silver or Gold status already issued by your status airline.

There are more questions in the FAQ should you wish to peruse, but if you do get issued something for next year, then it looks like you keep your status for 2027.

Also probably worth it to just keep generically spending on it for SA points and converting them as late as possible.

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere. I found similar topics but I guess not quite the answer I was looking for.

For context, I'm a Canadian-Australian dual citizen (born in Ontario) and my wife is Australian. We live in Australia and are expecting our first in November. We are also intending to travel back to Canada in June and December 2027, but I am at a loss as to how exactly to go about this because of things like ETAs, proof of citizenship, and limited validity passports.

We intend to get both country's passports as my understanding is that the new baby is born a dual citizen.

My confusion stems from organizing the travel for 2027: can the baby get an Australian passport and travel all of next year on an ETA or will the system have a fit due to the Canadian-ness? I'm willing to hold off on proof of citizenship if it means easier travel and not having to scramble or do things wrong in getting proof and an LVP.

If it will save headaches down the track, I'll just go through the motions and try to get the right documents. Biggest concern is actually being able to travel.
