Camel needs to fix the lag. They’re cheap af
That’s it. That’s all I have to say.
RIP Ducky Duck
Killed by a daytime raccoon while she napped. She knew her name, came when I called her, and loved pets. She also helped me put the chickens out in the morning and put them to bed at night. Loved her peas, mealworms, and watermelon. Such an intelligent and sweet little girl. I already miss her so much.
Paintball gun for raccoons?
A raccoon just killed my favorite duck (and injured one of my chickens) and has killed several of my chickens in the past. Probably not the same one. The past owner of the birds (a neighbor that moved) used to FEED the raccoons and he’d have about 20 of them. Needless to say, this stopped 2 years ago when I adopted the birds. Anyway, the fucker growled at me since I wouldn’t let it have her body.
I’ve closed off the portions of fence that allowed my girls to go back and forth to the new neighbor’s garden (which is super overgrown and part of the problem). I feel bad for my 8 chickens, as that’s where they spent the day, but they still have a large yard to chicken in.
Looking for recommendations for a cheap-ish paintball gun for me to shoot the bastards. I’d like to make it fun and colorful too. Spare me the moral crap, I’m not killing them (yet). Thanks!
Duck with soft shell eggs - has access to oyster shells 24/7
She eats them a lot, too. Her eggs are still soft! She also eats layer feed. Are these just the eggs she lays, or what am I missing?
Has anyone taught their chickens tricks?
I’ve taught my youngest hen to hop up on a platform for mealworms and as of today we’ve progressed to hopping onto my arm for worms. This morning I watched a few chickens on YouTube doing “tricks” like hopping thru a hoola hoop, going back and forth between poles (like the agility ones for dogs), doing the limbo. All for mealworms. Anyway, I want to keep training my hen lol but was wondering what other tricks y’all have gotten your girls to do?!
Is this a type of scale?
Found in western WA state. Found on vine maples. The white stuff is like a powdery melted marshmallow. Leaves no wound on tree. Found a quarter inch worm/larve the fluff of one of them but may be unrelated. Thanks!
I don’t see any worms, but what do you think?
This hen and her sister (both RIR) have poopy butts. Everyone else is fluffy and pooping normally. I’ll be soaking and trimming their butt feathers tomorrow… but why the runny poop?
Duck intelligence
I’ve had chickens and ducks for almost a couple years now. The chickens are fun to watch (and a few are smart-ish) but I’ve found ducks to be so intelligent and interactive. I have one in particular that acts like a dog. Knows her name, comes when called, even fetches the other ducks when I ask her (she may be motivated by the fact that she knows bedtime is pea time).
Does anyone else have ducks like this? Are there any studies regarding duck intelligence, wild or domestic?
What kind of duck is this? San Juan Islands, WA
Sorry it’s bad quality.. I didn’t want to scare it away!
Impacted crop?
She’s been pretty lethargic and I haven’t seen her eat in a couple days save for a few peas last night. Very skittish so I can’t get very close to her to feel her crop. They have access to a swamp so they’re usually gone all day but today she’s not leaving the garden. I can probably inspect her tonight when they’re back in the coop but i’m worried about her. Is this impacted crop? I think it is, but just need some more eyes on it
