Back in the early 1980s, I bought a small vacuum cleaner that I thought was the greatest. I don't remember the brand, but it had a retractable cord, which made me able to move it all over the room. At the bottom was a rectangular plastic enclosure which contained the disposable vacuum cleaner bag, which you had to replace every once in awhile after it became filled with dust. It sort of snapped on to the tube. You could buy the bags, but as time went on they became harder to find. Is this type of cleaner considered obsolete? And if not, does anyone still make it?

When did the term "Northern soul" begin to be used? As a New Yorker in his late adolescence and early 20s in the late '60s and early '70s, I heard plenty of soul music, but I don't remember ever hearing that term. Does it refer to music played in clubs in the north of England, as I suspect?

Why do you think the original Eastern European Jewish immigrant generation in the U.S. (and presumably, the U.K.), those who arrived in the first two decades of the 20th century or so, were either indifferent to jazz or actively disliked it? I know there were exceptions, but I'm thinking of my own family -- the oldsters tended to classical music and opera. Any ideas?
