Twitter

Quest flavor text & permadeath gives weight to quest text that never was never there prior to playing hardcore.
There's quite a lot of quest flavor text that offers warnings of doom and prior to playing on hardcore, where permanent loss is a real thing, I always smirked at the meaninglessness of it. It didn't matter because I can just run back and I would for sure see them again. Although this one in particular hit different. Uldaman can absolutely be a place where you can wipe and, "It was nice knowing you." just struck different.
I've been intentionally playing without many addons except things like a bag addon and Deathlog. Actually taking time to read quest text and lore. It's made the world feel a lot more vivid as a result in the context of permadeath. It's made me think about game design a whole lot more and why hardcore results in such a significant change in behavior from everyone--as well as the impact on the virtual world.
