Built a Kiwi EV marketplace because Trade Me keeps showing "Engine Size: 0cc" — it's almost live but looking for honest feedback on what listings should actually show
Update: some of the quick win suggestions were amazing and I could quickly sort them
- charger type
- v2L possible
- if a charging cable was included was included
- the trim package
- battery indicator
- number of seats
So thank you ALL this has been awesome!
Hi there, long-time lurker, MG4 driver for a couple of years now (came from a RAV4 genuinely like going from a tractor to a starship). I've pre-messaged the mods so hopefully this is all good...
Long story short, when we bought the MG4 it sort of cascaded into solar, heat pump hot water, ebike-curious, the whole electrification spiral some of you will know. I kept thinking there should just be one site with an ecosystem slant for all of this rather than hunting across half the internet, and TradeMe clearly isn't built for EVs. The "Engine Size: 0cc" thing really bugged me.
Welp I figured it was worth a shot so I've build a marketplace. It's called Electric Dreams (https://electricdreams.co.nz). It's free to list, and the "plan" one day is to make money via advertising referrals to ecosystem stuff like solar and home charging rather than charging sellers but that's a long way down the track. Right now I'm focused on whether it's actually any good and can I get people to list.
I'd really value any honest feedback on the listing pages specifically and calculator. I'm pretty sure I've got the math right... A few things I'm genuinely unsure about:
What info do you actually look for when shopping a used EV? Battery health is the obvious one but in what format? SOH percentage? Bars? A degradation chart? Something else? I want to get this right rather than guess.
What's annoyed you most about looking at EVs on TradeMe or Facebook Marketplace (other than market place being the wild west)? I've got my own list (no charging info, no range fields, dealers using stock photos), but I'd love to hear what other people hit.
Anything you'd want to see that nobody currently shows or even info that might tip people over from curious to intentioned.
Happy to take rough feedback, brutal feedback, "this is dumb" feedback. Genuinely trying to build something useful for people who actually own and shop EVs in NZ, not just a clone of an existing platform.
Cheers - and thanks to the mods for letting me post!
